    Default LS1 into HQ Sedan

    Hi All,

I though it about time that I start a thread about my conversion. I am going to put a LS1, turbo 400 and Hilux diff into my HQ Kingswood. Its my weekend car for the family and me so it wont be to out there or have a hypo motor. The plan is to have a nice cruiser with the power to run high 11's to low 12's, do a burnout when I want it to and something that I can run a muck with a powercruise and summernats.

It will be a slow process but I am hoping to get it done by the end of this year. The diff has been ordered, Prostars are on there way, starting the fuel system and just about to start running the fuel lines. I am going to try and do as much as possible while the car is still running and on the road so I dont loose the desire and crack it with it and not finish it. So hopefully the only time it will not be on the road is while i drop the motor, box and diff in (should only take about 2-3 weeks with only working at nights).

Anyway enough crapping on. Pics to keep you interested.

I run an LS1 in my hilux the standard diffs are not very strong, i now run 4.56 ratio Nitro gears and ARB 4 pinion air locker, and now have it to the stage where it breaks axles, in saying that i run 35" mud tyres and the only time i snapped an axle was locked on black top. Standard it wont hold up, and there very short, you might want to look at IFS front hilux rear diff they are wider by 3"

Hilux will be fine. Many "Stories" about them being weak and crap. But as always bad stories spread quicker than good. I can give about 3 builds off the top of my head that the hilux diffs are holding up to 1200hp.

I suppose only time will tell in the end

Hilux LSD have more slip than a Teflon coated salesman, the only reason some would say there strong is they are 4 pinion. If your going hilux diff do yourself a favor get a auto locker or ARB air locker.
I'm a fan of hilux diffs just not there LSD's.
You can do an easy disc brake conversion to them aswell using L series Subaru front calipers on the rear, and patrol rotors.

I am going straight to a locker. Not going to bother with the LSD, I had a 9'' in the last car and the LSD was crap after 3 months of driving. I am getting el rear disc's with r31 calipers (discs will be redrilled).

Yep an alarm will be going in this for sure. Cant take the risk of this one getting stolen after I have had my 2 previous daylies taken.

Finally have had some time tp work on the car. Mounted the pre pump, I used a carter black. Made the fuel system enclosure, cover out of 3mm alloy. Should all be good enough for the engineer. Will now go and buy a Bosch 044 and mount that.

    Little update:

I finally found a motor and gearbox with everything including loom computer etc
Picture 3 of 6 from HQ

Had to split the motor and gearbox so that I can change the sump to a rear hump

Picture 2 of 6 from HQ

Almost done with the sump change except my drill died when trying to dill the new dip stick hole

I am still hoping to have it done by summernats but I'llhave to see how it goes

Bit of an update. Motor is now in and running. Just have to do a little more and it will be ready for engineering.

I think this forum would be the best place to ask, what is something like this worth? I am thinking of selling and dont know what to put it up for. It will be engineered and registered in NSW (currently regoed)
