    Default my hx tonner build.

hi everyone im new to this forum and thought i would share my build of the tonner. at the moment its a 253 with a 4 speed behind it. my plans for the ute is to put a LS1 with a turbo 400 in it with a head and cam package to start off with. i will be doin a full ground up build as i am in the process of pulling it apart. trying to get it back to just a bare chasiss. i will admit i am usless when it comes to metal work for the rust but i have it worked out i am getting one of my panel beater mates to do all the rust work for me. i also have a mate that owns his own sandblasting and power coating buisness, so ill be gettin him to blast the chasiss and other bits and pieces and ill be powedercoating everything in a gloss black. ill post some pics of the process so far when all the pics up load on photo bucket

Sounds like a good plan. Post up some pics when u can
Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good.
    Luckily, this is not difficult.

So the cab is coming off? Sandblasting is a whole lot easier and quicker than rubbing everything back.

hey guys just abit of a update. i have got the ute completly stripped back to a bare chassis. i havent had the chassis powder coated yet as my mate has been busy. I have got new ball joints, tie rod end, have a full nolethane kit, have a 300mm break upgrade kit from hopper stoppers, i also bought the bottom end out of my mates ute and thats a forged 408 stroker out of his ve ss, had my higgins cnc heads arrive today, have koni red adjustables all around, a set of king springs lows(thinking the front end my sit to high with the lows), picked up a power steering box, im waiting for my diff guy to get back to me on how much my 9 inch with 35 spline moser axles and detroit locker centre with 3.7 diff gears with a disc break set up, also trying to get a hold of a turbo 400 truck box,
we have had to fix the rust where the body mounts to the chassis. so hopefully get all the bits to my mates work to get sandblasted and powdercoated by the end of the month.

I'm a big advocate for having all the chassis and suspension components totally stripped, sandblasted and powdercoated.

There is so much satisfaction in working with fresh clean shiny parts. They just seem to go back together more quickly. And since you aren't dealing with grotty, rusty looking parts you stay cleaner and thats got to be a bonus.

On my current project i have had everything off the chassis that i could and powdercoated the leaf springs, control arms, crossmembers, spring shackles and platforms. It was really rewarding to assemble new bushes and the like. Come road worthy and rego time the car will sail through any check.

Next thing i'm getting done is a batch of nickel plating on nuts and bolts. I'd reccomend that to you if you are going to this much effort.

Stripping the cab back will let you know exactly what you are dealing with in terms of its past history of rust, dents and damage.

Just for a bit of an estimate a diff housing, full floater kit, axles and brakes will set you back around 3 grand and about the same again for the centre. But it all depends on what you want to throw into it.
