    Question slant to v8

I have a vc valiant sedan. Have removed the tired slant and auto. Want to replace it with mild v8.
318,340,360? or 273 if I can find one. Which would fit easily and work best on the street with only mild mods,eg carb, cam manifold and exhaust and ignition. Have heard 340 is the pick. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

    Hi
Find an engine that's not only fits but is not a boat anchor . The 340 would be a start or what about 383/400 B engine . You need to find an engine that fits and you can get good speed parts for and well supported in the after market . This will also make the car more valuable to boot .

The 340 will be the most expensive engine option, all those engines will fit into a VC, you'll either need a V8 K frame or adapter mounts for the engine to fit the 6 cylinder K frame, I think, with the v8, the engine mounts need spacing up a bit too. I looked well into this a while back, I think you'll also need a v8 brake booster. All the chrysler V8's are solid engines, there are plenty of hot up parts for them all, the 340 is the hardest one to get as Its a well known early 70's performance engine that wasn't built for long and only a few made it into Australia in some Chargers, they are very sort after and are usually far more expensive than the other chrysler options... A well set up 360 will go extremely hard and shouldn't be too hard to find... Found this thread here, it may help with info...

    Hi
The engine with the best flowing cylinder heads either factory 340, factory optioned up USA version 360 , or a 383/400 engine . Price might be consideration . I am sure there are people in ozzy that can import a USA engine . Start with a good engine and cam , inlet manifold, valve spring, carby , dizzy, extracters will give a healthy return in tq and hp . All these up grades can be done over time .

340s are thin on the ground everywhere, even the US will have lower supply of those vs 318/360..

IF you could even find one here, you'd be paying a few grand for a rebuilder...

Hi guys, just on the topic of slant 6 to V8 conversions.... can you still even buy ALL the parts you need to completely rebuild a nice VC slant 6 here in Australia, or are the parts too hard to get. I know there are some differences between Aussie /6 and the USA version..... would it be much easier parts wise to just rebuild a 318 / 360? And slot it in?

    Thanks.

I have found a mob that make engine mount adaptors that don't require any removal, changing out or cutting and modifying of the slant 6 K frame to drop in a 318 - 360. Very tempting now.... just need to know what other engine bay, steering and suspension changes need to be made before i pull the trigger. I already have disc brake upgrade. Cheers
