I Believe the 340 was one of the best performance Mopars produced back in the day, i think Paulzig meant forget about it cause you wont find one, specially in this country.

I’m no mopar man, but was always under the impression from the local mopar gurus that the 340’s were better (and harder to find) than the 318 and 360.
You cant find any,and if you could they'd want drug money for it hence I say 'forget it'

I had one in the late 90's and I paid 1200 for a runner... You could buy a 318 or 360 cheap, no one wanted them back then. Now they are scarce too...

Those 390 Stroker Kits seem alright for the 318's. Yes they only have one head (edelbrock) which is a shame and I don't know what Probbo79's budget is. But a close 500 ftlb isn't bad?

There are more heads, you have the larger edelbrock victor, Indy, Mopar Performance W2-W9 but big bucks... You can even buy 340 replacement block and R3 but you arent going to like the $5500-$6000 bill for just a block.

500LBS You'd have to put a bit of money into the performer heads...

You can buy Mopar performance 340 replacement block for 5 grand. Hard pill to swallow when an SHP Dart for Ford/Chev is half that...

By the time you do the exhange rate conversion, shipping then taxes and duty on top of that youre at a $10'000 engine and thats for their bottom of the range one... You could build one yourself with more power for the same $$$...

I am weighing up whether to rebuild my 318 or look at swapping out for a crate engine, but not sure of potential issues that I may come across in thinking this way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 360 in an AP5. 318 would be no different except for mounts.

a 318 /390 stroker would be more than enough for most people. Stock 360 heads can be ported and 250-260 cfm is very easy to achieve.

Are you doing the work yourself or paying some one else to do it for you?

Shit you could pick up some 360 heads cheap and port them or have them done by some one who knows what they are doing and with 390 cubes make some decent power.
