If the Camaro was produced factory RHD and sold here with options like 4cyl Turbo engines, stock production low spec LS engines, run of the mill brakes and made more ugly then yes it could compete with the Mustang. Holden may well do some of this in the future. However saying the specification Camaro that HSV is to sell is in the same market as the Mustangs Ford Australia sell is like saying a 2016 HSV Clubsport is in the same market as the last Falcon range. Or a HSV Clubsport is in the same market as Commodore for that matter.

It isnt in the same market and thats the problem, no direct competition to the Mustang. They get a base model V8 Camaro, slap on some brakes, suspension, cam, exhaust, tune and a badge then whack a 100k price tag on it and when they do bring out the RHD base Camaro these will take a big dump.

Except HSV are only doing the RH drive conversion, no performance mods at all so you are getting a base model Camaro converted to RH drive at luxury car price.

From a specs point of view the Camaro is a direct competitor to the Mustang, it's the price point that will screw it up.

I get that, but HSV have never sold base spec vehicles, that is the entire point. HSV is not Holden. If Holden brings out the base spec Camaros when they are Engineered and built factory RHD then they can compete with Ford's Mustang.

Plus the 2SS Camaro is not a base spec Camaro, it is the top spec car bar the LSA powered ZL1, I guess you'd align it roughly with a VFII SSV Redline mechanically. It has the LT1, Brembo front and rear brakes, 20" rims, leather trim etc. standard. The base spec 1LS Camaro with its 2.0L turbo 4cyl engine would be a competitor for the Mustang, but the Camaro doesn't have a smaller, less powerful V8 like the Mustang has - you only have a choice of the 340kW/617nm LT1 on the 1SS or 2SS variants or the LSA engine with the ZL1 version.
