    Default 265 engine block id

    Hi there,

    So I'm trying to figure out how to ID a 265 block that will mate to a torqueflite. I know how the numbers on the distributor pad work D3... Etc but what i can't find is any info on what blocks will match torqueflite transmissions and what will match BW transmissions. Is there a certain letter or number to look for?

    In a nutshell I have a standard 245 hemi with 727 torqueflite in my valiant and am looking for a 265 to build up and swap over but am not sure how to id a 265 block that will match strait up to the transmission.

    Any info would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Ben

    D321 =
    D3 = 265
    2 = 1BBL
    1 = AUTOMATIC

    D331 we know D3 is 265, now the next 3 = 2BBL carb and the next 3 is 3speed manual.

    So the first two dig are D3 for a 265 and D2 = a 245 and a 215 is a D1.
    The next dig is 2 = 1BBL, 3 = 2BBL, 4 =high performance 2BBL and 5= 6 pack and 6 = 6 pack competition.
    And the next dig represents is 1 = Automatic, 2 =3speed manual and 4 = 4speed manual.

    I think yours would be a D341 or is it a D331, apart from that I don't think the casting of block is different for B/W or 727 if they are just have a good look at yours and another block to see if there is any difference.

    I can't remember if there is any difference in the rear of the Hemi but the slant 6 maybe.

    Ok yeah thanks, just wanted to be sure there weren't any subtle differences in the blocks. Torqueflite and BW are different bolt patterns. But will pull the 245 out and and have a better look.

    Cheers!

    The 265 block for a 727 or 904 is different to the one for a standard bw35 which the bulk of motors were connected to. Your 245 is probably a d37 (unless it was modded) which are pretty rare.
    It is possible to mod a standard 265 block to suit. I believe the top 3 bolts are the same after that you'll need to remove the dowels and re-drill the holes to match the 727. Dellow or Castlemaine made adapter plates - sorry haven't had experience with them. Starter motors may be issue as well.

    Hey thanks for the input, ill double check the numbers on the 245 but I'm pretty sure its a standard 245 number D231D from memory. Guess ill find out when i pull the motor out. Cheers!
