    Default hemi 265?

hey everyone i am in the midst of buying a vj ute off a mate of mine. i plan on doing it up so that it can take a corner well and still put myself back in my chair so im thinking a 265. im looking for about 350hp at the crank and a manual gearbox to match. so is all this possible or am i barking up the wrong tree.

Shouldnt be a problem but Mopar stuff is expensive , esp the 6 cylinder stuff if you want naturally aspirated and triple weber ... See if you can buy a 360 LA series engine with about 400HP it
    ll be cheaper ..

I know it'll be cheaper but I want to keep it light so it can handle.... would it still handle with a 318 or would it be to front heavy

Hemi Cylinder Head - CHI Cylinder Head Innovations

One of these will work well if you can budget it in to your build !

I didn't know about him (typical Holden boy here), cheers mate . Apparently he has his own CHI design
casting for the hemi 6 sounds like it's very good and worth looking into !

My mate was good friends with the guy who designed that head before he sold the business there a good thing. Precision international do forged pistons and h beams for these engine an external oil pump is also a good thing on these it gets a bit expensive like playing with holdens I think both George and Marrabito performance do a lot of hemi 6 stuff

I built one for myself about 20 years ago, 4" bore with 308 pistons, very minor head work, a mid size hydraulic cam and a 4BBL manifold. Fairly budget combo.

Was a lot of fun around town and ran a 13.8 at ECR, probably would have had about 350HP ?

yes you can make a V8 handle (have a look at Greg Crick's black 340ci charger in muscle car masters - you tube ). It will be infinitely cheaper to build than the hemi 6 and give more power - alloy heads and intake will reduce its weight significantly. The trick is getting the front end set up for it. Your biggest problem getting the ute to handle won't be the weight over the front axle it will be the light rear end that will happily swap ends with front with little warning.
LA 360 block with 4inch stroker to give 408 cubes and a very easy 450hp (600 with a good engine builder like HPE on here who put up some photos of a build he did). More than enough to make the Ute a weapon. conversion parts are easy to come by as well.

a 408 is not really a cheep option if your on a budget as you have to factor in pipes trans converter ect . After seeing the hemi sixes on the dyno there just old school cool all depends what your trying to achieve mate has some late model hemi 3rd gen stuff for sale if your interested but were talking about 7 k in parts depends what you want to achieve id stick with the hemi 6 4 speed and a 3.55 borg warner diff.
