I forgot to mention that it will be a daily driver and needs to be reliable........ I really like the sound of the 265 and 4 speed combo.... Would it be worth looking at forced induction?

No. I did have to sonic test the block first to ensure it would take the overbore otherwise it was dead simple.

It was over 20 years ago, I've lost heaps of brain cells since then and the cost in 20 year old dollars would be irrelevant anyway !

Yes it was reliable. I had it in 2 different cars before selling it off to someone that still flogged it years later.

I have been reading a few stories and seems that people r spending a lot of time and money and on the hemi for not much reward.... Should I just say fuk it and go for a 318 or stick with the 265

After reading around a bit it seems that the 245 is stronger for a turbo ..... Is there any merit to this?

Its just a different bore size thats all ...

IF you can find a 360 go with that, otherwise a 318 and put a 4" stroker crank in .. Either way its gonna cost you about 12-15 grand for a 450-500HP engine with the crappy aussie dollar if you have it done by an engine builder

The 265 was not supported by the USA home Chrysler people to go that far.

The Dodge trucks used only the 245 hemi and it used a different type of casting grade iron for the block as well.

Plenty 265 hemi have proven it can hack a lot of power.

My Dads 2 barrel 245 hemi in his VG blew the mains and the crank came out on the road, it was on the highway driven flat out at the time.
But from what I have heard some of the first hemi made had air pockets in the block casting, but they sorted that problem out better later on.

I have seen air pockets in block castings as big as jelly beans, any engine block casting can have imperfections as such and other problem things as well that can go wrong.

Default Check out Cameron Tilley Racing

If it,s 6cyl Hemi or Mopar V8 engine info your after, might be worth getting in contact with Cameron Tilley of Tilley racing. Check out his Facebook and youtube videos. These guys run probably one of the sweetest sounding and performing 6 cyl hemis going around today. Yes their Pacer is a a giant killer in the Muscle Car Masters running 400ish RWHP, but i'm sure they could advise you on a strong Street combo your after.

Thanks for the help..... I should let you know this is my first attempt at anything this big ( hence all the questions) could I run dual fuel on a 318 and still make decent HP ( fuel can get expensive in the outback)and what would I have to do to make the Ute handle reasonable well with a 318 and keeping a decent ride height
    Thank again

I have been thinking about it and I have decided to go with a 318 and manual ( partly because my parents owned a green Ute with that combo) one more question what would be the best 4 or 5 speed box to put behind a stout teen? any help on is appreciated
