    Default 383 Stroker rebuild or LS upgrade

    Hi Guys.

    My HJ Stato with a 350 Vortec has started to knock badly and needs a rebuild. It currently has a very big lumpy cam (don't know specs), Demon 850 carb, T400 and ford 9inch with 4.11 gears

    My question is in relation to options over 500hp with bang for bucks in mind and want to spend as little as possible to keep the Mrs happy.

    Option 1 - Rebuild the exiting 350 with stroker kit, new heads and cam etc $5000-$8000
    Option 2 - LS1 with good heads and cam (not touching bottom end or pistons) and 4 speed auto $5000-$7000 (I know the T400 is better but I want to be able to drive it for an hour at 110 on the M1 and talk to the passenger)
    Option 3 - LS2 with cam and possibly heads $7000-$10000
    Option 3 - LS3 with Cam and six speed auto $10000-$12000

    with Option 2 I would probably have some coins left to possibly to put a turbo onto the system once i sold the old motor and gearbox etc.

    LS1 is the cheapest and easiest to come across. Probably the most cost effective option.

    Sell your 350 & 4.11 gears & convertor...keep th400.

    Lsironblocks 5.3ls for $1350

    Watch Sloppymechanics on youtube for cam specs/springs/turbo etc.

    DIY budget build replicated by many.

    What ever combo u have u need
    cubic inches
    good cylinder heads to breathe which will add to your hp and Tq

    500hp approx. +++
    A good crate engine around the 12,000g LS 7 etc
    An original chev block /roller cam at least 383 needs AFR comp 195 / AFR comp 210 $$ 8000 --12000

    Complete cut out out of a late commo engine and trans complete loom [options carby /efi ] [ need trans computer or add programmable 1500$]
    There will be conversion loom
    Need a sump
    need headers
    need upgraded radiator
    upgraded fuel system

    Option 1. 383 Scat kit. Keep the Vortecs. They are a good thing. Get em Pocket ported. Bring comp up to 10.5 to 1. New rings, bearings. Nice free free flowing exhaust. Matching the right components should push you pretty close to your 500 goal..

    The vortec heads need to be modified for any aggressive lobe lift . All reports are they do respond to mild porting . Although you can pick up a set in the usa cheap around 700 USA already modded . Double that price easy in ozzy . Heads in ozzy are 1000$ plus mods .
    Combustion chamber size has a big influence on piston selection . The chambers on the vortecs are smaller. This may cause an issue if u ever upgrade to conventional heads.
    Vortecs can produce approx. 425hp

    AFR heads range 2200--3200$

    As above. You will need matching springs with your alloys too..not a big issue though..
