    Default Impala diff

    Hi all I have a 67 Impala with a 472 Cadillac and T400 its still got the 10 bolt 2.78 diff and 15 245,s
Around town it gets hot and the Delco only just charges at the low RPM I have fitted a Flowkool water pump witch helped
I want to change the ratio to give i more at take off and get the RPM up at 35 mph in the caddy the engine and tranny would have had 3.21 diff and 14's
Would 3.55 be too low and dose any one know if i can use the crownwherl pinion set out of a hq to Hz

No, only out of HK-HG 10 bolt, but 3.55 in these is so uncommon you won’t find one. Look for a diff out of an Aussie assembled ‘67 or ‘68 Impala or Parisienne, these were 12 bolt. Ratio will be no good but you’ll get 3.55 or 3.73 cheap from the US.

As mentioned the 67-68 Parisiennes/Impalas that were assembled here in Australia were factory 12 bolts, they were not LSD but were 3.55 ratio. Try Classic Chev @ Smithfield in Sydney. There was another guy named Frank Tonitto who would have had a heap of 12 bolt diffs but probably went to scrap when he retired

Aussie assembled ‘67/68 Impala and Parisienne are Canadian, not the same as US vehicles but the chassis is the same as US Impalas and they run a 12 bolt. Forget the diff centre, get a new Posi centreand gears from the US but use the housing and axles.
