    Default 421 SBC build !

    Hi Guys,

Have been collecting stuff for quite a few years now to build up a 421SBC. This is a weekend toy that has a couple of trips to the track each year. Have finally got it all together & got some dyno results.

I did not want something that requires constant maintenance, just something that can run a decent time slip & have good manners on the street.

    Dart block.
3.875 stroke, 6" rods, flat tops, zero deck, 11.6 comp.
AFR210 comp port heads, untouched other than spring upgrade.
Super Victor, plenum ported & match ported to heads.
QFT 850 carb with 1" tapered spacer.
Crane custom grind hydraulic roller, 246/250@50, 108LSA, 595/558 lift.

    Should do the job okay

Yeah I sorted all of the parts, BG's machined, assembled & dyno'd. The boat races is where I first met them.

Hey Con, will be taking it out once I get it in & all sorted. Been trying to get out there to have a look at your car & see it run but work has been in the way

I have run it at all of the Nostalgia's over the last probably 8 years but I don't see a date for one this year yet Test n Tunes are also a good day.

Thanks. Yeah feels pretty good so far, drives around real nice, idles between 900-1000rpm, doesn't get hot even though its winter. Just gotta get it to the track now to see how it goes.

Have got a couple of thousand klms on this now & has been to the track a few times. First two times could not stop it from spinning the tyres. The next time out went to a meet where the track was prepped up real nice & I had adjusted the Caltracks & shocks up as recommended by Calvert Racing so no traction issues this time.

    Got 4 runs in -
    1.625 sixty - 7.066/98.13 eighth - 11.094@121.16
    1.606 sixty - 7.025/98.68 eighth - 11.030@122.06
    1.638 sixty - 7.056/98.90 eighth - 11.049@122.30
    1.610 sixty - 7.017/98.98 eighth - 11.002@122.74

The car weighs 3600lbs with me in it & is not showing it making the 580 it dyno'd at. There is a few things I still need to sort out but will get it into the 10's.
The converter is not right so it needs to be sorted then will give it another run.
