Default HQ general questions about body stylings

G'day, edging closer to having the old fella fixed up and resprayed, so want to make sure I've got all the styling ready to go.
Firstly, these chrome mudguard things, I've never seen them on another similar car before, they look like they belong there, like an original feature, does anybody know where I could find some new ones? No sign of them on the usual places like Kingswood Country, unless I've completely missed it (a possibility).

Second, the grille. I'm thinking I'd like it chromed, or if I could get a chrome one, reckon it would be a bit of overkill with the chrome, or come up nice? Looking to get chromed headlight wells too.

Third, the rear. The towbar looks 100% home made, but I'm committed to keeping the car original, or as close to as I can live with, and I could live with this hunk hanging off the back, warding people off from running up my arse. More what I need to know though, rear bumper bar over riders for a HQ. I've heard varying things regarding whether HJ onwards ones will fit a Q, anyone got any experience with that? Yay or nay?

It won't let me put the picture in for whatever reason, so here's a link.

    Thanks fellas

    Hi
There were a lot of accessories either provided by the Dealer or the factory . Unfortunately most get binned once the young fellas get hold of the vehicles .
Yes I have seen the wheel arch shiny mudflaps b4 . They were install with a set of mud flaps. Dress up part I imagine .

The bumper over riders are individual to HQ [from memory the front units are Lh and rh ]
From memory the Hj ones go close but different . Then again it may have been the model type I was comparing .
There is a mix of overiders depends on rear bar profile
Attachment hook brackets were also different which are permanently fixed to unit
The last time I looked at this was 20 years ago so I might be a bit rusty on this !!

Be aware that left loose the overiders can scratch the shit out of the bar . There was a plastic trim that installed on the edge lip of the overrider .

Remove the tow bar and keep in shed . They mess up the styling IMO.. They can also harbour rust .

All HQ grills were painted, you could get it plastic chromed but that wouldn't really fit in with "I'm committed to keeping the car original"

The splash guards and the towbar look to be period correct items and could very well have been dealer fitted. The towbar you have is less agricultural than the one my Grandfather had fitted to his (now mine) HQ back in the day. At least yours has a removable tongue.

Be aware, removing the towbar will leave 3 holes either side of your boot. Also, if you do remove, there are tubes that stop the crushing of the boot floor, don't lose them.

Keeping the car mostly original... may replace parts with other period appropriate pieces. Staying purple with a 253 are my commitments.

You know if/where it would be possible to get some shiny mud guard things? And when you say they were installed with a set of mud flaps, do you mean with the rubber ones together? Also, anywhere that has the plastic bumper protectors for the over riders? I'm kinda gobsmacked nowhere has reproduced over riders in general for these cars.

That was my point, a chrome grill is neither original or period correct

No idea where to get?? Easy enough to make out of brushed stainless sheet .

Overiders plastic mould to protect bars ,have no idea where to get . [small c section plastic mould ]

Starting to realize that all these companies that produce parts are only in it for the money . "rare spares is a paradox "" They only produce really really fast moving stuff nothing rare at all . And they sell old stock till it runs out then Goooooooone .

Too right, having all the major parts accounted for, I'm after some more niche finishings, and they just don't exist any more outside gumtree it seems.

Anyone have recommendations too about getting brighter lights? Currently all original headlights and the like, what are good globes I can get to brighten things up a bit for both regular and high beam?
