    Default HK Reproduction dash circuit

    Hi all.

This is my first post in this forum. My project vehicle is a Madmax interceptor tribute car, a Ford. Progress has stalled on the the project somewhat as tends to happen. I have an electronics background. Almost all the Aussie Fords from '72 to '79 have a flexible dash circuit. It is a flexible printed circuit with a type of polyester substrate which is copper clad. Over time the copper traces tend to lift and break. They eventually become impossible to repair.

It occured to me that I have the skills to make these circuits. The first one I did was from my XC GS. It was a steep learning curve! What I did was scan the original and hand trace everything using Coreldraw. There are 3 layers, the shape and cut-outs, the copper traces and on top the mask. It took a long time to get the process right but the results were worth it. Since then I've done the XA/B GS/GT, ZH Fairlane and P6 LTD.

To date I've sold over 50 circuits. I'm proud to say I've had no complaints. I try my hardest to get them spot on, sometimes making minor adjustments to the original to get the fit better.

I get them made in 0.15mm fibreglass. The reason fro using fibreglass is that it's very tough. also the copper is bonded to the substrate much better then the original, you can actually solder to the copper without it lifting.

Anyway my reason for posting, my latest endeavor is the vdo HK Monaro circuit.

They are not made yet, but soon will be. The artwork is done but before I commit to having them manufactured I'm getting a final prototype made to test the fit.

    Here is the artwork:

To give you an idea of what the final result will look like, here are some shots of the XC ones:

Very interested to hear what your thoughts are. I have no idea if there will be much demand for them. I'm not doing this to make money, as it's not a good business, trust me on that! I simply enjoy making them and keeping our old girls going.

    Cheers.

brilliant, i think they are all the same for all the dashes, there are 4 types of dashes available for HK, and we have been repairing the ones we do one our restos, infact need one right now, will be keen to get one of you and try it
another board to make which is hard to get and proving to be popular is ZC ZD fairlane, one circuit board does both in zc zd and a/c and non a/c cars, let me know when they are ready

I've never heard that saying before, I'm going to adopt it as my new favourite.

ZC/ZD is the next one I'm going to do! Currently trying to locate a good example. Will be in touch when the HK ones are done. I missed the cut off for this year, will be ordering a run on Jan 11th, takes about 4 days :-)

I would have a mint ZC/ZD one somewhere you can copy.

one of the admins of that facesook page frequents here quite regularly here showing his car, but if I mention names, I get in trouble from the admin here that think they invincible when they should be on a P&O cruise enjoying themselves, not doing laps slower my fat wife and her latte sipping mates at the snap fitness centre

Thanks, I have my eye on one on eBay. I really also need the metal part of the dash that the circuit mounts to. The reason is that if I copy the original exactly, it will not fit perfect. Because the originals never do. I make tiny adjustments to get the fit spot on. I have asked the eBay seller if he will separate the metal part from the massive plastic dash which would be huge to post to NZ. If that eBay guy does not want to help I'll might hit you up.

Do you have an opinion about the mask colour for the HK circuit? That is the colour of the solder resist/top layer. For most circuit boards it's green. It can also be blue, red, black yellow or white. There are no shades or anything just those solid colours. I have had all the Ford ones done in Blue, because the original are blue(although a pale blue) plus blue is the Ford colour. I'm tempted to go with red but it will make it look very different to the original, so I might go with green. Would appreciate your thoughts.

I've found 3 FB pages that I'll put up a post on, just formulating it now. Thanks for the advice.
