power to around and slightly beyond 200 HP is easy in those engines, but iirc you made mention of fuel economy also

HI
Mild Hq 6cyl HCompression 9.0:1 rated 135hp . My economy figs are 10-13 ltrs per 100km or 18-22mpg . trimatic 3.36 diff .
Good single exhaust with twin cast iron headers . Had to modify inlet mani to fit . HEI ignition . Biggest single Stromberg out there . Cannot remember the various sizes now .
This all was in the early eighties .
Oh yea we had decent fuel not this current garbage .
Car went ok far better response but not a 308
Similar response to late XE XF falcon 250 weber carby engines . A falcon efi 250 was a good engine for the times as well . Way better than any early Holden 6 cyl
Tried LPG economy was better slightly performance was way better on leaded fuel .
Now lpg is just to costly
Cubic inches = power and big cylinder heads with a maxed out 1/2 inch fuel line ,, sorry just dream`nLast edited by swampy; 09-02-2019 at 07:41 PM.

Talking about early 80's there used to be a strata manifold and turbo kit for the Holden 6. They were the shit for a Holden 6.

The EFI engine is pretty close to XU1 spec to begin with, just do a little maintenance and it will go fine in factory form. However the VN Delco would be one of the cheaper options to upgrade engine management if you needed to (for example if changing cam, which the original controller won't support properly) - but that's a lot of work for a car he can't even drive yet.
