    HI
You would need some who still has the equipment to burn the memcal/chip

    checking compressions
    checking for vacuum leaks
    ignition tune up
    injectors cleaned
    Best low cost upgrades

Not worth spending big dollars on

There is a fella getting around in my area with an VK turbo 6 running a VN-VP ECU.
Don't see why you cant alter the EFI to use a VN style ECU for not much expense.

Saying that there is also a Barra powered VK in the area as well.

    hi
Just do the maintenance needed including replacing parts and servicing /inspecting components . As I suggested earlier . Look into distributor bushes ,from memory a lot were worn out
I would not and spend 2-3000 dollars unless u had to

Cam shaft and hi flow exhaust would be a good mild improvement.

I am sure there were people who modded these but as soon as the Nissan VL came out interest in these dropped off .

The Nissan 3ltr outa the VL is a superior engine for power output .

For the times the efi black was a good idea

I only plan on spending any where from 1000 to 1,500 hopefully on the engine/ exhaust if possible i was also always planed on camming it.

How hard would it be for OP to swap in an RB to the VK?
    would he need crossmember etc?

I've seen that done, even a non turbo one... failing that non turbo RB. I dont know if P platers are allowed something 'modified' to the extent of needing engineering/mod plates etc...

I do know I wouldnt spend a cent on that 202 black though...

I would think that the best way to improve fuel economy, after making the engine right of course, would be the addition of an overdrive gearbox if one would be available. then if one is available maybe a ratio change in the rear if needed.

The factory headers are decent, no real gains to be had by replacing them.

The VK EFI engine will perform significantly better than any standard carbied 202 (except XU1). Spend your time and money making sure its in top shape, anything beyond that requires new engine management.

The Weber would work OK but no better than the EFI and you'd be up for carb, manifold, distributor, fuel system changes and re-wiring.
You can get away with a small cam, Crane used to do a good one under their "Cam Dynamics" brand. I did a mild VK EFI for my VB Commodore a little over 20 years ago with that cam and it ran great. I've just looked in an old catalogue and found the specs, it was 198 @ .050" with .383" lift on 110LC so not big by any standard but a little better than stock.

    Hi
Would be cheaper to buy a VL running vehicle would it not.

Single 2.5/3.0 exhaust with a good muffler connected to the factory headers and a mild camshaft .

Parts availability with the small block chev is insane... Fords are OK too

    Hi
With the Holden v8 similar to efi 6 development is only a crawl. By comparison with the chev v8 there is a lot more scope . Although development has now slowed to a trickle since The LS series came along . But shock horror there is even kits to fit twin turbo 9000rpm 30psi 4 cylinders to holdens
For old v8 and 6cyl its all in the heads flow capability a standard gen1 type chev flows 300cfm a LS engine can flow 400cfm . Development has stopped for gen 1 but LS is going off like a rocket

Back to the efi 6 limited gains compared to the money invested . Then again side mounted super charger with the efi would be interesting .
To get 250-300 hp a Nissan 6 turbo or holden v8 4.9 or 5.0ltr would be ideal and reasonably priced but not a holden 6 efi .
There is a lot more modern developments for the Nissan 6 due to its vast racing history.

Although the nizmo would be a better solution it comes at a cost---just buy a VL turbo with huge exhaust and intercooler . Was all the rage once !!!!!!!
More costly again and late model would be the supercharged v6 commo motor.

All options depends on cash really
