If the engine is in good condition you could get a performance head for it, cam, extractors and fit a 186S manifold and carby but that stuff is all getting harder to get and thus expensive and if the engine is a bit worn it may be a waste of $. In all honesty i'd go and buy a rusty V8 HZ and swap the whole driveline over, maybe with the aim of fitting an injected 5litre from a VN-VS. Is yours a sedan/wagon or a ute/van?

Hey mate, thanks for the reply, it's a sedan..
The only reason I'm working the 6 is because I'm on my Ps for another 18 months and legally can't drive a v8.
Do you have any recommendations where I would be able to find anything?
    Cheers.

I'd leave it alone until you are off your P's, save the $ and spent on a V8 for it later. Maybe fit some extractors and a 2" exhaust, and a HEI dizzy off a blue motor or EFI VK but leave it alone apart from that.

    Hi
Unless u can fid the parts cheap
    small cam
    exhaust 2 inch extractors
    Hei dizzy
    twin stombergs
    single twin barrel carby

The issue being the hp/TQ level is still not all that great

Holden v8 253 are cheap and a far better alternate
    mild cam
    performance manifold
    performance carby
extractors and twin 2 inch exhaust
    hei dizzy
    v8 radiater

Good idea to buy a wreck most complete and economic way to do it fairly easy conversion

Later on u can up grade the 253 to a fully recon 308--355 bottom end when funds are available
