Well its been a little bit of a saga with this idea but it could be getting somewhere.
Put simply Im trying to organise a cruise / meet spot in Melbourne's south east with the help of police. Click the link to view the idea and see other peoples opinions and you can add any ideas or info in here if you like or pm me. If you dont care, then dont worry about it ![]() Brett http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=131008 |

i like the idea, although i am still 3 months away from being licensed, i would be happy to attend a controlled meet.
as long as it can be kept in control, and be sure that it doesnt turn into another BWCP, with the support of the police, something like that would be good, and i like the whole eastern suburbs thing, lol

Yeah I want to make a point to keep it as far away from Knox as possible. Everyone knows why.
I actually had contact from a senior sergeant the other day requesting more information so atleast there is contact there now. Its still a long way off happening but its baby steps for now. |

There used to be a similar thing at the bundoora square shopping centre a few years ago, it started off as a local hot rod club running a cruise/park night on a tuesday. It was a real good night, heaps of nice cars, cruising , people just hanging out the cops used to even rock up with their horses and just move through the crowd to keep the peace .. Then it started to get bigger, some local idots started showing up, people were dropping a lot of litter , local residents complained, council complained , cops started coming down hard on everyone, in the end it was a good spot to stay away from. I wish you good luck trying to organise it, but it will take a lot of planning and working with the cops, but check council by laws, parking restrictions and local shopkeepers first, I think the bundoora cruise night was part run by the local hotel.

there is a similar thing up hee in brisbane. toombul shopping centre (westfield) on the last thuirsday of the month, the cops do a meet and greet type thing. where u can take your car in, have a chat to the cops, they will tell u if its legal or not but they wont do u for it. aslong as its not 5mm off the ground or no radials hanging out if tyres (or simliar stupid defects liek that) they wont pick on you for it. and im prety sure they throw a free BBQ aswell. i havnt been up ther eyet as its to far for me to go on a worknight, but from whati hear, its pretty good

sounds like when chief wiggum organised free speedboats for some of the townspeople...
PROGMH- Ive deliberately stayed away from commenting on your plan until you got a little further with it. Whilst you might find the individual who understands that we are not all hoons, as an organisation you wont find much support. Im not sure turning a blind eye to illegally modified cars with a level of tacit support is something the police are into im afraid. Having read the ct thread id say 90% of those supporting you are driving around in cars that dont comply with adrs, roadworthy requirements etc. I know my car wouldnt pass the restrictive requirements so in the shed it shall stay. Im sure the reason I dont get picked on is because I travel solo, carry my family in it and drive sedately NOT doing laps of the main street. It will take just ONE unassociated idiot to ruin any goodwill you may garner by gathering in peaceful numbers and what happens when the EPA decide on a visit? They are friends only of trees, steel dragons breathing fire get their back up and then we are all off the road. Also, whilst parked and behaving is fine, what happens when the mob part ways? You cant guarentee everyones compliance and once a concerned citizen complains, local papers pick up the story of "Hoons taking over carparks" and its all over. My suggestion is to keep it lowkey, stick with cruising with mates and enjoy the game, that is How long can I keep enjoying my car before big bird lands on the windscreen. Every successful carpark meet has turned to crap eventually, what can you do to make it different? Good luck mate, I hope you get there, but unfortunately whilst I may come for a look, it will be sans greenhj. |

i think the idea is there mate and a lot of us agree, but unfortunalty mr plod wont barge when it comes to modified cars. it doesnt help that im sure all of us at some stage have gone out and watched an elegal race, or cruised on a thurday night in a big group, and now that has labeled everyone modified car owner a "hoon"
getting the cops or government to budge i dont think is an option. like the last guy said, going on small cruises with mates and staying away from key spots like princess hwy, the city, frankston (the usual spots where they are targeting. i much prefure getting a small group and heading out to philip is, or up the dandenongs and hope that the local police see that we arnt causing any trouble but justenjoying our well earned pride and joy. at the end of teh day, id love to attend regular meet and greet/car shows, but wouldnt due to police inforcment so strong, and the fact that i cant afford to pay for defects. police would prob say if we all dont drive defective vehicles, then they wouldnt need to pull us over, but we all know that all it tkes is a shiny set of wheels or a jiant sticker on your car and its pretty much classified as a hoon's car. my opinion. good luck and hope you can proove us all wrong tho mate.
