Default Argo cam driven water pumps

Anyone had a cam driven water pump on a 308 holden? What is the pros and con of them? I have a timing cover for a 308 holden which Argo stopped making about 10 years ago but havn't got the drive mechanism for it. I do have the specs to make one up but dont no if its worth the trouble?

No drive belt. I like that idea as I have no adjustment on the belt with the jabsco pump due to the exhaust setup. They look flash and shiny but are they any good?

Kincade sells all the Argo gear but they no longer can get the 308 bits because Argo dont make them anymore. They have all the chev gear. So unless someone just happens to have one lying around somewhere i would have to make one up.

I have a cam driven pump on my v drive boat, its a chev, but the idea's the same. super reliable. to me it would be worth fabricating the drive for your 308. 1 less fan belt = 1 less thing to fail. just my opinion.

This is a sketch of the drive key for the holden motor. A 7/16"UNF allen screw is used to bolt it up with the timing gear and fuel pump ecentric/cam. The other picture is the Chev key.

Thanks Davo,
This is what I want to hear. How long did you have it on for.

I am not sure why they stopped making them to suit the 308. Was it just because there was not a big enough market for them or was there problems with them. Obviosly due to the way the key mounts (just the two outside edges of the key drive) it will not be as strong as the chev style which is solid through. So I am just chasing some first hand info from people who have had one.

tinman
i had that boat for 6 years & never had a problem with the pump, not much in them to go wrong, they have a nice solid rubber impellor in them & that motor used to get a good workout as the v drive only had a 5% step up.the mob i used to get my stuff through might have a pump lying around as they have been around for ever
