    Default Chev Big Blocks

Okay, I thought it would be good to get a thread going for the mighty Chev Big Blocks. Anyone out there who has one please post your specs, and if anyone has any questions about them or fitting them to an HQ-HZ then post that too and I will try to answer what I can. I do have a good collection of books on the subject, plus I drive my 454 everyday.

    OK, my engine specs are,
    454(7.4L)
    mild cam
    roller rockers
    dual plane med-rise manifold
    tri-y pacemakers
straight gas- twin impco 425 mixers and twin B2 converters
HEI with MSD module and coil

My knowledge of chev motors is pretty limited unless we're talking about the LS1. So is the 454 motor released as that or has that been stroked?

    why would they do that?

wouldn't that give them less race power?

Not really, no. The Big Block Chevs were designed as a performance engine first, for NASCAR, then they did truck versions. Mine is originally from a 1970 Impala. They were also available in Corvettes and Camaros and Chevelles. Google the SS 454 Chevelle and have a look at one of the alltime classic muscle cars.

What do ya have? I want to put a bigger cam in it. A single plane manifold. Maybe a tunnel ram if I can get one at the right price. Dunno, anything to make it more powerful LOL!'headbang'

i agree VAN454, the SS Chevelle is the thoghest chevy in my opinion, the first time i saw one i was about 7 and said to my self i want one (doing the Homer Simpson as i thought it). Also one of my brothers mates here in Port has a HQ 350 GTS monaro with a 572 big block (crate motor) stoked to a 595 with dual 1000 cfm Demon carbies on a tunnel ram, when she starts up she shakes shakes the ground, imitating an earthquake & deafens you for a few minutes. i recently heard that he had to sell his 350 powered 70's land cruiser to put in a new tranny, bcoz it got shatteredwhen out for a thrashing of the bitumen.
