    Default HZ gearbox swap auto to manual

    Hi all i have just bought myself my first 1 tunner its a HZ 308 tri-matic. I have a M20 sitting in the shed and would like to know how much is involved in putting the m20 in instead of the trimatic. I just need to know about clutch set up and also pedal arrangement. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Is the M20 set up for a v8 or 6 cyclinder? Imput shaft lengths are different, boxes look the same

    yeah was thinking that just depends on how far i want to go with the car and what i will be using it for. Autos are good for the strip where i reckon manuals are good for cruising and thats what i want to do so do i hi stall it and work the track or do manual it and cruise

    I just use mine to cruise and i thought there was only one box for cruisin - Manual.. but as i said above.. I sooo love my auto now. My hubby still does the wheelies and all the boy stuff and i just get in it and cruise.. no stress no hassel no gear changing haha (as much as i did like a manual knob to with )

    There's been a bit of debt about boxes on here but my take is the M20 is bottom dog, then trimatic, then the T350's on..

    Check to see if the HZ has twin or single clutch pivot.

    clutch depends on a few things such as hydraulic, cable or rat trap to get the pedals setup right youll just have to have a good look at a set on a car with the same clutch system and then you have to set the shifter up which can be a pain but once sorted is all good id put a supra 5 or ford t5

    Probably not important anyway as you have a V8. Only 6cyl needs the extra pivot hole for clutch pedal. So all you really need to make it easy for yourself are:

    Late HZ or WB clutch pedal, manual brake pedal, cable support bracket, bolts and clutch cable;
    Complete V8 4spd, cable bellhousing, clutch fork and shifter;
    Clutch setup and flywheel;
    Reverse switch wiring from a HQ-WB 4spd;
    Shifter boot and metal seal ring;
    The right speedo drive gear to suit your diff.
    That's about it apart from drilling the cable hole in the firewall in the right spot. Just find a manual WB commercial and copy it. When you go to do it i'll send you a scan of how all the pedal setup fits.

    I'd pull the M20 apart too and put a kit through it. This is when you normally find a buggered cluster or input shaft. You can rebuild it to anything you want anyway, but M20 is probably the best for a tonner if you intend to carry any weight or tow.
