Default 350 Chev, to Turbo 700 to 9"

    Hey guys,

As some of you will know I have just put new gears into my 9", I chose 3.7's and was loving them until my engine overheated and flipped out.

Anyways I have noticed that the T350 3 speed box that I am running now isnt really what I am looking for and I have been offered a rebuilt shift kitted T700 from a VN for $800, I know the guy and trust him that its in good conditon, and he also has all the receipts for the rebuild, which has been rated for 500hp.

Anyway so I have been contemplating this as a swap for my T350, becuase the T700 has the extra overdrive gear and the T350 I am running now is has the manualised valve body and its a bit of a pain to drive, im looking for something a bit more cruisey.

    My questions are:

    Is this an easy swap?

Also what is involved in the swap?

Will I need a new tailshaft to mate upto my existing 9", or can the old one be used?

How much roughly do you think this will cost?

When picking a high stall, do I have to pick a stall to suit a 350 Chev or to suit a Turbo 700 box?

Will I need to alter the floor of the vehicle to make the box fit?

Can I still use my old school B&M 3 Speed selector, or will I need one of the other ones?

Does anybody know anyone who would be able to do this job?

Sorry for all the questions I just wanna clarify a few things before I go ahead and buy the box.

    Thanks

    Dico

If you use the 700 you can go with a lockup or non lockup, but they are different than your 350 convertor. The th700 is not the strongest box but if it is built well it can handle a fair bit . I run a 3000 stall but would like to change to 3500. Doesnt really matter cos you lock it over 80kph anyway. Mine has lasted over 3 years of street abuse with towing a camper and quite a few passes at the drags running 11 sec 1/4s. The overdrive and lockup are only reason I use a th700. It is a bit fatter than a 350 but I think they still fit a HX floorpan. You will need to change tailshaft. Need shorter shaft, different spline. You will need a 4 speed shifter. Once set up properly it should drive really good . Make sure the T.V cable (kickdown) is adjusted right or you will kill the trans real quick. Good luck.
