    Default HQ Ute Rebuild

    Hi all!
Thought I should start a thread on my ute I,ve had it since I was 16 and covered around 50thousand k's in 2 years. It's got a blue 253 and trimatic, commodore 10 bolt diff, GTS dash guards and bucket seats, dragway mags and 2 inch lowered springs and blocks.

The bad news is I got pulled up by the cops through an RBT which resulted in a defect notice for being too low and having rust so it has to go over the pits at the defect office, and I know it has about as much chance of passing as me scoring a date with Miranda Kerr.

It's been sitting in the shed at home for a year or so I thought I better do something with it like a full rebuild!

Front guards nose cone, inner guards and radiator all pulled off, which was suprisingly easy.

After removing the wiring harness, fuel lines, brake lines and body mount bolts i jacked whe whole body up to slide the chassis out from under it, probably not the most conventional way but fairly easy.

    Thumbs up

    Sliding out the chassis

Out! But covered with dirt and dirt mixed with trans/engine oil thanks to a previously broken oil cooler line and leaking lift pump gasket.

That was Holden's factory fitment "corrosion inhibitor"...

More seriously though, it was a tidy ute to begin with, looks like it's about to get better.

There is a reason why that 253 is painted blue and thats so it dos'nt scare the fish!

I have got a standard bore red 308 with cast heads sitting in another shed, might throw some pictures of that up later.

Dragged the carcase out onto the back lawn for a quick pressure wash with the Fordson.

Boat anchor removed and front steering and suspension taken out, remember to put all your nuts and bolts into plastic bags and label them!

Stripped bare with some bits of 50 square tube in the background. Should have that all welded up soon so i can flick the whole chassis around and clean up all the shitty looking welds and bits of spatter all over the place.

More Progress! Finally got around to constructing my rotisserie, so i can clean up the welds and spatter all over the place and run over the nasty scaled up bits around the middle cross member to look for thin metal. Then its off to get sandblasted in the next few weeks.

And the cab which has some ugly rust but nothing that cannot be repaired, im thinking of taking it to Minus Paint in Adelaide to get acid dipped, has anyone had any work done by them?
