Default 06' HSV VZ R8 Clubsport

Hey all, thought id finaly throw somethin up on the clubby.

Its a Black '06 HSV VZ R8 LS2/6Ltre manual 6 speed full black leather electric everything etc...

Its just a daily get around car but still plenty of fun making 430/RWHP N/A and 520/RWHP on the gas. Which im happy with considering its prity much only a cam/ otrcai/ exhaust/ mafless tune. Want to buy something more serious (back to old school) for the strip in the future, so i added these quick mods to the clubby too keep me happy while in comfort until then.

So far ive run a 12.9 @ 111mph on crapy 19" street tyres and no gas. Fried tyres and the best 60ft i could get was a 2.186 and averaging around 2.3 which is prity crap. MPH says it can do mabye a 12.3-12.4 when i put the slicks on and if i can get it to hook up right (fingers crossed). Next meet i will run the slicks and 100 shot and aim for 11's.

theres a few vids on there for anyone whos interested. Wll post more up of out the drags full noise soon.

Something more serious? Man 430 at the wheels should get you in to the 11s now with a bit more traction! 520 should be in the 10s but if you get traction with that youll probably start busting clutches, uni joints, gearbox etc . A mate of mine just went through all that in his 6 ltr ute running 11.2 with 460 rwhp.

He would of been running an auto thoe yeah? Ive seen em with the same combo hitting 11's N/A but with auto's, im struggling to get it right with the manual. Being a clubsport it weighs in around the 1750kg/3800lbs so its got abit of weight to get moving also. i dunno, time will tell...would love to see it hit 10's...dont wanna get my hopes up thoe

Ive got a twin plate clutch in and im in the process of upgrading the tailshaft and installing a harrop diff cover (stops axle tramp) and changing all rubbers to nolathane to also help with axle tramp. Also added fully adjustable coilovers so i can have a play on the track and then return it to a comfortable ride around town. Hoping all this will help it launch better and hold together abit longer.

No its a six speed, thats why I said he blew his clutch and box etc. He was trying MT et street tyres but didnt like them on a manual, said they work better on an auto.He did 1.6 60 ft and it used to bang the diff centre on track till he changed suspension setup. He leaves the line at 6000+ revs!

GEEZZ!!! 6000+?? haha yeah the track up is prity sad for traction compound so i couldnt do that. I was warned about using m/t's and it hookin up too hard and breaking stuff being the humble ol commodore driveline wasnt goin to handle it. So i opted for something a little less stickier and went with toyo semi slicks. Did abit of dozer work on this guys property who owns a tyre shop and he deals with toyo so he gave me a set for free.

But yeah thats crazy he's gettin 11.2's in a manual with the same setup. Think i might have to throw the tyres and bottle in the back and make a trip down to willowbank one day

I love it mate. I really like the VZ HSV's. I was looking at a VZ Senator before i got my SSZ, but decided against it at the time. I WILL own a VZ R8 Maloo some day

Ya gotta hate a manual when it comes to racing. I have a small cam, and the rest of the bolt ons, and i ran 12.5 @ 109 on Wednesday night just gone, at Willowbank. With your setup, and the right launch, traction, ect, you should be able to get it to a mid to low 12, i reackon. Chuck a shot of gas thru it and youll easily crack an 11.

What cam/OTR/exhaust/ect are you running and who did the work?
    VZ SSZ - 228/230@ 112lsa - 3500rpm Dominator - 3.73 KAAZ - 260rwkw - 12.2 @ 111mph
    Soon to be bottle fed!!!

Thanks mate! Am at work at the moment and cant remember off the top of my head what the measurements were, all i can remember is its crane (along with valve train) with over 600 thou lift 240sumthn/240sumthn haha around abouts. Full twin 3inch stainless x-force system including stainless extractors with 1 3/4 primarys. yella terra otrcai 25% underdrivn pulley, vavle springs vavles, retainers. Also added zoom twin plate clutch, billet pro shifter, custom made surge tank with some bloody noisy larger fuel pump lol (added it because was recomended with the nitrous) 100 shot wet NOS, and recently added pedders xa adjustable coilovers all round.

Performance parts plus did all the work and kennys garage tune it, made 322/RWKW N/A and 389/RWKW on the gas

Hey 12.5s not bad, gotta be happy with that...id be happy if i got that with no gas

Do Commodores really weigh 3800 lbs? My 55 weighs 3700lbs on Willowbanks scales. My mates ute was running high 11s with cam, exhaust ,computer change then he had heads shaved and new cam added to run low 11s.The thing sounds like a real animal and he drives it pretty hard. I dont think you need to touch the giggle gas until you sought out suspension and tyre issues.

VZ Clubsports really do weigh that much, hard to beleive i know. Look it up. Ive raced alota big american muscle cars and they always say but mines heavier then yours, but 9 times out of 10 mine is actualy heavier. Which sucks because i can only imagine what itd go like in someting lighter.

Yeah ive had the gas setup in for a couple of months now but havent ran it yet for that reason. But now ive got the slicks and suspension part sorted (bar the harrop diff cover) im ready to hit the track again and finally have a crack on the gas. Im itching to give the giggle now

take the time to learn your manual and you can leave just as hard as an auto off the line, my best 60ft is in the high 1.60's, just have to be prepared to have a go and expect something to break (i havent as yet tho)

high rpm and slip that clutch out instead of dumping it and you should be onto a winner, im not saying im the best at doing anything but i have around the 413rwhp mark and run a best of 7.750 1/8th mile time, which should translate to a very very low 12 or a high 11 (REALLY need to have a crack at the 1/4 mile)

what size cam are you running in that vid?? i really need a 6ltr, too much easy power you boys are getting!!

Hey cruchy, The track up here doesnt get looked after as its shutting down next year so very rarely does it get any traction compound layed down. So the runs i hve done so far have been on street tyres and prity much if i wasnt doin anything but driving off the line and the easing into it it would just spin and realy slow times would follow. Otherwise i would use the clutch slip trick.

Originaly went to buy an LS1 but buying the VZ with the LS2 in my price range so i went that, at that point i had no idea the easy power i could get until i decided one day to have a play. Both my brothers have old muscle with motors they completly buit and spent bucket loads of money on and they cant keep up....loving the LS2!.

Will definately get it on video for you guys, thanks for all your advice and support
