Default 350 chev and turbo 400 into hk requires engineers in nsw?

hey guys just wondering if i put a 350 chev crate motor and turbo 350 or 400 into my hk will it require and engineers cert in nsw, the car also will have commodore diff, and a front brake kit, and has retractable seat belts.
just wanting to know my options because i was going to put in a inj 304 with vortech but ive latelty been thinking the 350 chev could be the cheaper option. The car will be rego'd in NSW

    cheers, Andrew

shouldnt be an issue due to it being a factory fitment (brougham and monaro) a mate just got a hk prem thru with a lsx
(told them it was a ls1 5.7l but had to fit cats and mufflers ect)2years ago i pulled the 186s from my hk munro and fitted a 350 with no issues thru the blue slip check

as far as im aware its the same as what bns454 said....pretty sure they came out with a SBC (not sure if it was 327 or 350) obviously the rego people will want to check out the seat belts to make sure the operation is worthy etc etc -- but as far as im aware, if the mounts for the diff are as standard for the HK then everything is sweet to go

as soon as you modify the mounting points/crossmembers/structure then it starts playing into the engineers hands

    HK came out with 327's
HT and HG came out with 350's

I wouldn't think that would be an engineering problem, although HK and HT/HG have slightly different front ends. Something to do with the gearbox member.

From memory to fit a turbo 400 you'll have to adjust the trans tunnel by cutting a main structural member. This could cause problems. You might be better of fitting a glide or a strong trimatic (obviously a trimatic would be a proble with a chev bolt pattern though)

Im presuming a commodore diff means discs, that would mean engineering as your talking about very important components there.

If only they made a smaller trans than a TH400 ! somewere between a trimatic for a holden V8 and a TH400 that was still a 3 speed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maybe they could call it a TH350 or something wacky like that! :P

To answer the original question, no engineers certificate required.

In NSW you can go 15% over the original engine capacity in the same engine family.

IE: If it comes with a 318 Chrysler you can bolt in a 360 Chrysler legally, if it comes with a 327 Chev you can bolt in a 350 Chev. No engineers required.

Using a Commodore diff does require an engineers certificate though. Why not just use the original ten bolt and save yourself the hassle?

    Probably, and they're strong diff.

Personally i've never had a car engineered in my life, never been defected either despite having several blown cars, a few non-factory turbo cars, and a heap of others. Until Australia fixes the whole situation with a uniform set of rules I don't see the point.

Case in point: A mate of mine bought my old charger which I'd driven for years with a blown 360. I never had an issue with cops, rego or anything. He fits a big block to the car and gets an engineers cert for everything, even stuff he didn't need it for. Yet, he gets defected in Canberra one year. He whips out the engineers certificate and the Federal cops just looks at it and go, "Who cares, you engineers certificate is worthless here." Slaps a defect on the car.

At that point you've got say, "**** it!"

yea like why the hell does each state have different laws and different rules, is it more unsafe to do somthing in a different state i think not, same as building regs for builders and the likes if somthing is unsafe in nsw why is it ok in QLD or vise versa

It's a wonder we don't need a different licence for each state.
