Default Steering Controls

I recently purchased a VS Calais Series 2 and was wondering if by adding a pioneer cd player that i have am i still able to use the steering wheel controls ie. volume up and down, mute etc. If so wat must i purchase in order to retain the use of this factory option.

Hi

I just got the steering wheel controls hooked up with my new JVC DVD head unit in my VY SS. Works a treat.

There is a special wiring loom connection kit you have to buy.
It was around $300 to buy the wiring kit including installation.

Very expensive but worth it i recon, especially if spending a lot on the head unit and custom install as i did.

yeah i'm doing this at the moment. got a VT 2 calais. had to buy a headunit with ir remote. and then get a steering wheel remote adaptor which was 150 bucks. it converts the signals from the wheel into a signal the head unit can understand.

Yep i have seen these at jb hifi, they simply plug into you existing wiring from your steering controls and have a little ir led which must be placed somewhere close by your head deck. Need 2 things , 1 a head deck with ir and the kit is meant to be compatible with the deck. Think they were $230 there so $150 price is good. I have the same issue in my Vt but cant justify the expense
