Hi guys, just bought some pioneer tweeters and I have know idea how to install them, so if anyone could tell me where the all the wires connect that would be great.
- I bought the tweeters by them self - I don't have crossovers (what do they even do?) - At the moment I have a 4 channel amp powering my rear 6x9s and my sub - And I have just 6s in the front Regards Karl |

cross overs get rid of the bass.
they will give mids and highs to the 6" and give only the highs to tweets. the proper way to install them would be either: get an amp which you can connect to the tweets on its own channels, if you do this you can dial down the bass and mid and only have highs. or buy some cross overs and hook the tweets up to the 6" and then you can just connect both speakers to the amp and let the cross overs do all the work. |

yeah thats exactly it mark,or,if you find a cheap alpine amp, with only 2 channels, buy that, run your tweeters off it,and if you stay alpine with your amplifiers, you can Piggy back your amplifiers to one another,
POWER x POWER EARTH x EARTH just do that with your wiring, and your amp should be set up,also, doing that will save you a pre out on your head unit.and you'll have a good sound comming from your tweeters, and speakers, though,if you do that, the only thing i fear will happen is that your tweeters will out sound your remaining 6" speakers,so just tune it down, and never the less. good luck ![]()

The problem with just connecting them straight to the back of the other speaker is the distortion in the tweeter when it tried to reproduce sounds that it's not made for.
A good set of cross-overs are the go, you'll be glad you did! |

Hi Karl017,
If you call a crossover a filter, it makes more sense. A "filter" for tweeters does exactly as mentioned, it takes out the mid and low end sound from the speaker. As you know, a sub being big, moves a lot of air slowly giving great bass sound. Your 6" fronts will give you a reasonable low end , good middle of the road but not so good high pitch sounds. The tweeter needs to get only the high frequency end of the signal so that it will work efficiently without dying. To buy a filter (crossover) for tweeters is cheap and simple to install. most are on a thin board to allow fitting in the door or whatevr, and have wires in one end (for connection to the speaker or amp) and wires out the other for the tweeter. Hope this helps, i don't know how conversant you are with audio gear but just ask for answers! Good luck, you'll enjoy the clarity of sound once in. |
