Exclamation Speaker setup for HQ ute

What would be a great speaker setup for a HQ ute?
So far i have a 12' sony sub and a cheap set of 6.5" componets which i will upgade to alpine splits.
None of this stuff is installed yet.

Could someone give me some ideas
I've seen setups with 3 speakers in the doors. Is this an over kill and would they have a sub?

the splits are good, the sub is a bit big for the ute i think, a 10 would do the job... i had 3 speakers in the door running off the head unit in my ute and that was earpopping, splits anda pair of 6.5 3ways would be the go

If i went with the 10" or 12" sub what would be the best way of mounting it. I was thinking cutting a holle in the rear wall of the cabin or mounting in a box in the tray.

Would check out the legalities of cutting into the rear wall. An alternative is using Pioneers slimline 12 inch sub which is around 8cm deep. I'm not sure how much room is behind the seats in a HQ though so you'd have to find the size of the box and take some measurements. As for the front stage, being a ute, you only need to install a set a splits to get some nice sound happening. I'd recommend the jaycar kevlar splits, reasonably priced and produce a decent sound.

Yeh slimline subs are made for utes, i think from memory they mount a box between the bottom of your seat and the floor and back wall.

i had a wb ute with a nice system in it, i had a US audio anmp mounted in a box behind the passangers seat had computer fans to keep it cool, i had a 10" free air pioneer sub mounted in the wall between the seats (as for legal i got defected for something un related and when i went through regancy asked, they informed me aslong as i dident remove structure it was fine. i then had a pair of 6X9 sony explode under the seats, as well as a cet of clario splits in the doors and a set of clarion splits in the front kicks. as for the head unit i cant realy recal i think it was a sony one. was a killer system for under 1k and i was a student at the time. wes very loud but clear. i went the free air sub so that you dont need a ox for it. i might have pic somewhere?

Brian

Cutting the back wall is no problems as it's not structural.

It's not structural at all on a Holden HQ-WB as they have the full chassis. On the Commys and Fords, the majority strength is in the cross rails above and below the panel as well as the B and door pillars. I suppose to a certain extent it could be considered structural in them so it may be better to go with the streamline woofer. BUT there is NO problem at all in HQ-WB.

By the way Daryn, what qualifications or knowledge do you think audio fitters would have in the way of vehicle structural integrity?

I would assume that being in the industry, they would have to have some knowledge regarding the legalities of certain mods as it would be a common question asked.

a 6x9 in the vent on the inside just behind the door could help in canceling out the hi-range if you just used 6.5 speakers...
Doc, would it be an issue if i cut a hole in the metel barrier between the boot space and the back seat say the size of abot 9" across top to bottom?

I'm presuming you're talking about the X shaped brace behind the back seat in your VK. If so, it's only there to support the back of the seat. Some support around where you cut it may assist but would not be essential.
