Default Amp wiring

Hey, was just wondering, what is the difference in wiring between a 2 channel and a 4 channel amp?

And also, is the rca cable the same (two plugs on each end)?

there are no differences at all mate.. the RCA inputs are also the same with the only difference in wiring being that there are 2 positive and 2 negative outputs, one set for each channel.

a 4 channel amp can handle 4 speakers.
a 2 channel amp can handle 2 speakers.

you hear the term "bridge" alot. and that means connecting 1 speaker to 2 channels making the 1 speaker have twice as much power. not all amps can do this, and the only real speakers that benefit from this are subs.

rca's come in different combinations.. RED WHITE is for audio. red being right chnl, white being left.

shit mate, you made me recall things i didnt mention earlier

i have a 2 channel amp running my sub atm, seeing as though it has 2 sets of RCA inputs (2 red, 2 white) i have RCA splitters on the end of both the red and white plugs and the amp is bridged. my nissan's stereo had a 4 chan amp, 2 channels were bridged to run the sub and the other 2 channels were each connected to a split. If i could be bothered messing with the stereo in the clubby i'd continue to use the bridged 2 chan for the subs and either get a 4 channel amp to run 6x9s and 3ways in the door, or get 2 2 channel amps for the speakers if i wanted to fill my boot up with junk and allow for greater sound quality/tunability..

theres just too many combinations these days where car audio is concerned.

then you add a couple of capacitors. and a pair of splits.
and bingo. you've got more wiring then a nasa shuttle

caps are really only needed for high output subs and shit though.. or when you have a bazillion amps sucking the charge out of your battery faster than the alternator can top it up - nice strobe effect headlights are a telltale sign... ive never bothered with capacitors.. i'm no audiophile, and incredibly lazy

Another question, doesn't deserve its own thread. If a sub is rated at 1000w, can it be amped 1000w and what would be the safest to amp it?

the surest bet would be to use a 2 ohm stable monobloc amp.. there are people who could better answer this question.. i just wire shit together and am always pleasantly surprised when it all works

is it 1000w rms (real music power or max power), some how i doubt it'd be 1000w rms but anyway you'd probably be best getting something with about 400 watt rms that should push it with out a problem and then some. (looking at about $400)
