Default Losing Power

Hey guys this question is for my brothers vr senator.

He has an alright set up with a 15" sub 1500 watt from Sound Stream, 6x9 pioneer rears, 6" fronts with tweeters and a pioneer deck. But when he cranks the volum up pretty loud his volts start going down i spose cause the stereo is draining the power. I know pretty much nothing about stereo's and that so does anyone know a way to fix this.

Bullet mate

Dose your bro have an amp in his system?
If he dosent he really should get one, thats why it keeps dropping out. If he dose have an amp there are a few possabilitys the amp isnt big enough to power the sub, the cars battery is too small to power the amp or the battery might just need a charge.
I have workd on heaps of steros and never had a problem....
Now it could also be how the whole system is wired up too, The best way and safest in my opinion have the 2 front speakers powerd by a deck, then the amp will run the sub and rear speakers.. that will give you more control in adjusting the clarity, bass, mid and so forth...
Let us know how it goes dude.
Good luck

Cranked up = 1500watts
= 125 watt drain from the alternator and or the battery

and if you have an 85 amp/h alternator (operating at 4000rpm or less amps at less Rpm)
id guess youd have about 5 amp at 750rpm from the alternator.

so thats a loss of 120 amps an hour from the battery.

350 amp hour battery - 120 amp hour = 0 volts in 2.91 hours.....
but a car generally wont run under 9 or 10 volts cause its not enough to crank the ignition....

so its alot less time again.

then add EFI, Computers, Ingitions, Igniters, Interior lights, and other crap. and youll drop the battery amps to nothing quickly.the Alternator will say 14 odd volts.... but theres no amps.

Ignition coils can give 30,000 volts kick.....(so the spark can jump the air space on a spark plug electrode.) but there isnt the amps to really kill you....

but 2 amps via 12 volts across the chest probably will....or an unregulated alternator at 4000 rpm makes an Extremely good Stick welder.....

I dont know squat about stereo's but my other hobby is solar power ??

Boss is onto it hey, Mate you have the maths to back it up which is all u need hey, At school in science all my projects were on sound systems in the way you can achieve pure clarity in any set up, the way the sound waves move and stuff but yer hit up an amp BulLet

Well it must be the battery then.... Bigger battery or just try charging his one up and see what happens... But mate its either the wiring or the battery

Could be the earth from the amp and its lose
Could be the general wiring of the system
Could be many thing.. check the wiring then the battery and go from there.
Could be a fuse too

Try more battery capacity... 1500+ watts would be a real drain on a small battery.

You need to get an alternator that will charge at a higher rate.
You need to get dry cell battery that has a higher rating. (Generally they all do)
Most Importantly, you need to upgrade the thickness of the cable connecting the battery negative to the body. Most people don't do this and you get power draw.
This should fix it, i've fixed the same problem this way about 10 times.

(Alternator upgrade isn't absolutaly required, but would help)

Mate i install stereos, this is common for large stereos. The amp is asking for more amps but the battery is getting hammered and the altenator can only charge at a certin rate. A battery that is always getting drained then charged then drained etc causes the cells to collapse. You need a crack capasitor, a 1 farrad cap costs about $100-$200 then there's a 2 farrad cap which cost about $300. The cap holds the charge and releses it taking the strain of the battery. Head to Jaycar electronics and buy one, the 1 farrad should be enough, to install it remove the positive cable from the amp, stick it in the crack cap then another short cable runs from the cap to your amp. Your brothers battery may have already had the damage done and may need replacing. The cable from the battery should be atleast 8gauge (about 4mm think or larger). Good luck.
