Default 6.5" components?

Fellas is anyone familiar with 6.5 components that have 2 woofers, 6.5" and 4", as well as the tweeter and cross over. How do these compare to your standard ruin of the mill two speaker jobs. Found these on ebay what would they be like. Just wnat some good sound for a good price.

Cheers

Havent had much to do with the 3way splits. the difference between the 6.5" and the 4" drivers would be so subtle that you would struggle to really find the definition as the frequency responses of each driver would be overlapping a fair bit, even with the crossovers i'm sure.

Those fusions seem to have an ok overall frequency response but sensitivity and rms power isnt great but not bad either.

My recommendation would be to stick with the 2 way splits and invest in a dedicated subwoofer that would give you the frequency response down lower (like 25Hz) and provide a more balanced sound... but just my opinion.

If you already have a sub (or dont want one), or are a little partial to the 3 speaker setup, then I would suggest running 2 identical drivers with the one tweeter, it would give you better punch in the mid range and more definition through the most used frequency range.

But then again, do whatever you want, I just like to ramble when it's a subject in my field sort of
The fusions wont be too bad at all

i havent had much to do with 3 way splits in a auto sense either, but i know from some of the speakers i sell (and one or two ive built) that a 3 way split is one of the most efficient ways of reproducing sound since we tend to separate three ways trebal, midrange and bass. however, that is on a standard floor speaker, where all the drivers are on a parallel construct (ie one on top eachother in the box), a vehicle is acoustically different. you'd have to really think very carefully on the placement of all three speakers to get the right levels.
to put it in plain engrish, bass is mainly non directional. thats why you can put subwoofers in the boot and still hear them. main speaker drivers can be mounted in the doors because the frequencies they produce can be audible at that level. and thats why they put the tweeter on the dash or equivilent... to fire it at the person's head area... as it is VERY directional. to add a pair of 4" drivers in there AS WELL, which would handle midrange, which is relatively directional, you'd have to mount them in the dash... firing down. Basically a pointless exercise (acoustically speaking)

Just like banno I also think i just went into WAAAAY to much detail for a $150 set of speakers.

Plain and simple advice: spend your $150 on a decent pair of 6.5 two way splits also stick with a brand you know. fusion, alpine, jvc, kenwood, pioneer, soundstream, rockford fosquate etc.

sounstream is the best by far for sound quality, as for value for money, i can't really answer that. but i do know that a pair of the best 6x9s are about $350, with about 500w max, 150 for best sound. when i do a speaker upgrade i will be going for teh Tarantual series of speakers, they are sposed to be one of the best ones and resonably cheap compared to their upper end of the range.

you cant go past focal for a decent reliable set of splits

but for a good price and sound the kicker stuff is fairly reputable, as long as its mounted well, as Hombz described I think you be happy

but go focal if you can stretch the budget a little, you wont regret it

I have close on 4k worth of soundstream gear. and i must say it looked good in the shop but i'm not so impressed by the build quality. ive had 2 of the amps in for repair and the 6x9s pick up engine noise.

I'd advise either Alpine S-Types (SPS-171A) or some JVC Cloth Carbons (CS-FS6). either would set you back under $300. The JVCs are nice. just got a pair of them in the missus Capri
