Default spool legalities

Lads,

As far as I am aware mini spools are very illegal.

I had a mate trying to tell me that they were infact legal and told me to 'find proof that theyre not'. So I went on a search and couldnt find a single piece of information regarding it in any roadworthy regs or modification guidelines!!
The only thing it mentioned in regards to axels was that there is to be no welding of that sort of stuff.

So if you got done for having a spool could you get out of it if they cant show you where it says that they are illegal? It mentions nothing of both axels being locked at once.

spools are illegal as they lock the back axles, causing the wheels to go the same speed while turning a corner, causing one of them to hop/skid. This increases your chances of loosing control.

a god lsd with tight cones will give a nice "spooled" effect, without being illegal.

No there not. I have never heard of anyone I know getting done for one. Hell I used to do contract work for Vic roads and never heard of. There is nothing in any law or rule book that says they are illegal or other wise that I have read on it.

All of my book work for my road worthy licence never had anything either now I think about it.

Thats what im getting at.

There is no mention of diff centres, lockers, spools, locked axles or anything to do with it mentioned anywhere.
The closest thing that comes near it mentions that axles cannot be welded.

No rwc tester would legitimately give you a roady on a mini spool anyway because theyre generally thought to be illegal... but it makes me think that if you cant find any information on it and even the tester not being able to show you... is it illegal?

They have to show you if asked, they have to supply you with written info on any defect if asked for, and the ownes is on them to prove it so.

Is that the roadworthy tester or the person issuing a defect?

Can't the rozzers do you for as little as chirping your wheels nowadays (discretionary i know, but...)? So chirpy-chirpy round a corner could equal a big fat fine from the local wallopers.

Though i'd like to know more about those God LSD's mark! Sound good! lol

fail...(to your ill informed mate)

vsi 8 clause 3.3 plainly states an acceptable modification not requiring certification would not "cause adverse handling characteristics"

Try explaining the spools virtue to an engineer lol..

I realise its a bit vague, but thats the point, it covers everything that prickroads consider "adverse" regarding suspension, driveline etc.

This then puts the onus on you and your engineer to prove the legitimacy of the mod.
