Default No Id Tags

my VN SS was a stolen recovered... no id tags on it now, even the vin from under the windshield was taken

it has a new number stamped on the strut tower, which to me didnt seem to add up and looked dodgey...

went to the local holden dealer to see if they could help me out, and they were at a loss also with the new stamped chassis number, as it is not like the sequence that it should be..

it has the letters STLNRE in the middle of it and the last 8 numbers are 00000001 - as you can see, this is why it looked dodgey to me...

turns out that it is 100% fine, and the STLNRE is code for "Stolen Recovered" and therefore its all good, as it has been inspected and approved for re-rego - car was stolen and the interior stripped out and the tags taken...

i am goin to call holden and see if they can help me out with any other info about the car, but the only other numbers to identify it is the engine number, so i reckon its gonna be a struggle..

its a shame cos if i ever do decide to sell it, im not sure how many ppl would buy a car with no id tags on it and a dodgey looking number stamped on the strut tower {i got the car from a mate, who brought it at auction in melbn, and he got the rego side of it sorted out, so i knew it wasnt dodgey}

would holden issue me with new id tags or anything?

You can never get replacement ID tags for a car. The only suggestion is to keep all the paperwork for the restamping and registration so they could be passed onto the next owner. A small suggestion. Don't let the rego run out. You may have to go through the whole procedure again. You will only be able to get information from the engine number if it is the original engine but I wouldn't expect Holden to be too helpful.
