G'day boys,
I was just wondering about this one as a hypothetical. If I bought a HQ and pulled the ID tags off it and put them on a HZ would the HZ technically become a HQ? My logic was that (to my knowledge) you could pull the HZ RTS half chassis (i'm thinking sedan/wagon) and install it to a Q so that car would become a HQ with a HZ chassis, so effectively if you just swapped the tags it would appear the same. What does everyone reckon? Is there a VIN number or something i'm missing? Feel free to correct me, i'm ok with electrics/mechanicals but i'm not super proficient on the factory release details of every car. hehe. Tim. =) |

Ok, should have pointed out i'm not planning to do this i was just thinking out loud...
I was thinking of it because i will have to buy a HQ or a torry, something pre-emissions because my motor is missing a lot of the emissions stuff. Can you legally put the HZ chassis into the HQ to get the benifits of the RTS (that's what i hope to do). |

swapping the front clip over is not the problem here dude, the issue would lie in you swapping the tags that identify your car body. as hq74 said, this is rebirthing and is very illegal, jailtime illegal. just buy a q or torrie and leave it at that. you can get them to handle anyway.

Sure why not?

I'm not sure if its a kiwi thing or not, could well be. They all have numbers, just that some of them only had them on the tags, not stamped on the chassis as well. Are you saying that (for example) you guys can't fix a car with a rusted out chassis by replacing it? Sounds dumb to me

Ok, once again i wasn't planning on doing this, and when i bring in a few more pay checks i'll be hunting for a HQ sedan/wagon. So if anyone is looking to part with a neatish rolling shell that left the factory with a V8, i could be interested soon.
Oh, and I wasn't saying hypothetical as "wink-wink, nudge-nugde", i meant it to mean hypothetical. But since the debate is now beginning to rage couldn't you technically be accused of re-birthing a car if you tucked a different chassis under your car? I should clarify my question though, can you install a RTS HZ chassis under a HQ LEGALLY? I like my cars to be completely within the laws (except maybe for too low ) and as i have already rebushed the entire car and fitted new springs and shocks, i'd be happier if i could just swap the working good condition chassis under whatever HQ i buy to replace it.Last edited by beeb; 14-08-2008 at 09:13 PM. |
