Default Un-tagged cars

hi ive got a question for the boys in blue, vicroads website seems to be down at the moment.

i have a bit of a problem, i have just purchased a VC SL/E, factory V8, sunroof etc. Bad thing is there is no tags to be found (its been resprayed at some stage)

now the people who i bought it off, assure me it wasnt stolen or crashed or anything.

im wondering is it possible to get a car that has no tags registered? assuming the VIN number checks out ok. because it would be a shame to have to strip it for parts.

thanks, cam.

I'm not sure of the exact procedure but you will have to get in touch with Vic Roads. It can be done but also can be a lot of work.
The vehicle has to be inspected firstly by police at your local station and all numbers are recorded. This is arranged by the stolen motor vehicle squad. The file is then sent from the local station to them and they then check it out. They know where stamped numbers etc are and are able to inspect it to see if any numbers have been replaced etc. If it's all clear, then it can be registered. There was one member here who did it but I can't recall who. As I said, first port of call is Vic Roads. Forget their website. It's next to useless.

The most important thing to remember in situations like this is:

Never trust people who want your cash until they prove themselves trustworthy, but even then, be careful.

It might work out fine and i hope it does, but i reckon its not worth the risk buying a car before checking it out properly first.

If the radiator support hasn't been changed then it will still have a chassis number..if it has will look funny having a car with no tags or chassis number.

Not until the late vh's did they put the numbers on the strut tower.Get it sorted out dude before spending money on it then running into trouble

it gets weirder, i now have the car at my place and for the life of me can not find the build tags, it does have the tag on the rad. support with the vin # so thats a start.

i ran the vin through an online checker, and it comes back as an 82 vh...

this is the VIN if anyone can help me out- 8K69LBJ800269H

with the tags, im yet to find them (not in the same place as my other VH, and i dont know where there sposed to be on a VC), nor can i find a place where they have been removed from.

strange.

its looking more and more like a VH now with some VC stuff on it
