Default fitting a V8 into a smaller car

as we have all seen, people for years have been stuffing V8's into things like cortinas, mazdas, geminis etcwhat are the rules etc and are such things legal still today? (im presuming with engineer approval is a must)i remember there was a calculation to determine the largest engine capacity allowed to the vehicles GVM, or is it the vehicles NET weight? Can anyone supply the calulation.ok i'll now admit, i been day dreaming up the idea of fitting a little small block ford (289-302 windsor) into the brumby. the brumby's NET weight is 940kg, but GVM is 1620kg... so whats the largest capacity engine id be allowed to fit?

im having trouble beliving that... cause if thats the case a lot of vehicles would 'illegal' and even fitting a EFI N/A later model subi 4cyl motor into the brumby would easily put out 20% more grunt

you could be right tho GYM, cause i have no idea, but 20% increase in power, if its true thats sad.... Dr Legal where are you?

i just found this link http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...s_nov_2007.pdf

now, going off the 'calculation' i can fit a 172ci engine as the biggest i can go, BUT, in the points below, it says that the above chart does not apply to 4WD's.... and the brumby technically, is a 4WD, so, where does this put it at now?
