Default pre 72 emissions requirements

"Emission standards for replacement engines

1972 and later model vehicles with substitute engines must meet the intent of the later of the Australian Design Rules applicable to either:

a) The original vehicle; or
b) The substitute engine."

.....

"Vehicles manufactured prior to noise and/or exhaust emissions related ADRs must meet certain minimum noise
and emission requirements if the engine modification is to such an extent as to require certification by an engineering
signatory. Engineering signatories will be able to give you more information about these requirements."

this is quoted from the documentation on the rta web site.
does this mean that i (im putting a l76 into a 69 model holden)
and 18htan (ls1 into 63 belair) will not have to run cats?
any idea what minimum emissons tests we will have to comply to?
and / or where to get the documentation to back it all up?

ah. sorry. my mistake

I've had a good look around and seem to have found exactly what you did.
I'd suggest a phone call to an engineer to get the good oil.

It seems that VSI06 was written either before a decision was made on the requirements for pre '72 vehicles, or the existing standards were subject to change.

the standard doesn't actually say that.
it does state that there are noise and emission requirements, but not what they are.

exactly my point, I was trying to find out if anyone knew what the minimum requirements were.

I think everyones case will be different, and they should do as i plan to do and consult several engineers. In the end if your engineer isnt happy with what you have done he wont engineer your car.

as for the injected 5.0L id just put the top end onto an old block (1971), then the only identification on it is from 1971, so technically it is a 1971 engine and has to meet the requirements that the engine as original equipment in the car did. (as far as i know)
Again, best to talk to an engineer and see what they are happy to approve, because you will still have to get it engineered.
