I was just wondering if you had any suggestions for my partner who is basically being stalked(for lack of a better word) by the local police. the drive past our house constantly,on 1 occasion last weekend on 1 day they drove past at least 20 times waiting for 1 of us to leave and pulled our mate over as soon as he left our driveway pretty much.i know that my partner drives a V8 Group A SS but does that give the police the right to follow him and pull him over all the time for now reason?this isnt a rant,i just want to know what we can do about,if there is anything.

just thinking out loud but im sure theres plenty more to do in the job than harassing innocent people and "stalking" as you put it. If it truly is no fault of your own then your police ombudsmen or Mr Brouwer might help (actually I think George retired?).
If your not telling the whole truth, and only you know for sure, then what do you hope to achieve??? Im sure the wolf is offended when its stalked by a hunter...But the sheep sure feel better about it. |

I've got no reason to lie...i just want some advice amd since this is a forum for that i thought i'd ask thats all.My partner loves his car to much to have something happen to it because the cops seem to have it in for him.
if anything,he is being accused because of cars that look similar to his or have similar number plates.he has only had his car registered for 1 week and he doesnt do burnouts because he has 20 inch rims on his car and he wants to have it as a show car eventually. His car is his baby,it took him months to get it on the road,he wouldnt do anything to risk wrecking it or losing it. |

I think the "Internal Affairs" is the department your looking for.. These guys are the guys who police the police.
Take your claim to them, and they'll hear your story, take down statements and investigate. Or you could simply in a very diplomatic manner go to the police shop and talk to the sergeant, you may find the car was previously on a hit list, or had some other bad wrap.. Let them know the car has recently changed hands. again do this in a very diplomatic tone.. |

I tried to PM you but it bounced back.
You have a number of options here but you need to be armed with the facts. Don't get me wrong here but you need to have facts not what you believe or want to be true. A majority of complaints about police are vexatious and meant to disguise something else so be careful. You will need details of the police officers themselves such as their surname and where they are stationed, dates, times, particulars of what happened etc. The first option is to go and see the officer in charge of their station and lay the cards on the table. Let him or her know the facts etc. This may be enough to have them lay off your partner. The second is to go the the Ethical Standards Department on 1300 363 101. This will instigate an official investigation. The 3rd option is to go the the OPI. They are an independent body that investigate police but rarely take on anything like this. They would most likely pass it onto ESD. It can take up to 60 days to complete all the file through ESD and be prepared to be interviewed. If it's your partner who is being harassed, he will have to lay the complaint. Not you. Hope this is of help. doc

In the course of investigating such complaints, would the appropriate people be obliged to look into the "character" of the person making the complaint in the interests of determining whether such attention by police is warranted?
Id hate to complain about something "minor" only to have other issues arise once the digging starts... |
