Okay this aint me its a mate and he recently had to take his car down to frankston police to get inspected because he was caught doing a burnout but not confiscated, any ways the officer who inspected his car informed him that a LC torana didn't come with a 202 in it and he needed to get the car engineered. I thought the car did come with a 202 in it and wouldn't require an engineers. Can anyone clear this up?

What a load of shit.. You wouldn't have to get an engineers report for that. No way known.. If it has a different engine number on the rego just take it to vic roads and change the engine number, there'll be no problems as long as you've got a receipt. Because LJ's had 202's you can put them in an LC cos it's basically the same car..

Section 11 of VSI 8 states that any engine offered as an option on that model is acceptable provided all the other changes are equal to the original (or words to that effect). So if a 202 was not an option, you can't do it. HOWEVER, it later states that if the engine is by the same manufacturer, of the same power, weight and emissions, (none for an LC) then it can be fitted without an approval certificate provided there is no alteration to the frame or structure.
As far as I'm aware, the external dimensions and fit of a 173 and a 202 are the same. Maybe a slight increase in power output but basically the same. My suggestion is that if he has the correct engine number registered in the car, then no problems. If not, then take it to Vic Roads and change it. No one would probably notice any way. If they say you need an engineers, then your mate will have to get one but I wouldn't be concerned. I presume he has to take it back to the police station? He's also very lucky it wasn't impounded for a burnout. Have a read of the VSI yourself and see what you think. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...340/0/VSI8.pdf doc

Myself an owner of an lc have also had the same dramas in frankston and when i arrived at vic roads to query the situation i was seriosly laughed at, take the car to vic roads and make sure his numbers match with his rego and regardless of p plate regs he has no problems. Time and place to be stupid though
