Default Fuel Cell in Ute Tray

Is it legal to have an aluminium fuel cell mounted in the tray of a ute? Its not a remote fill one, so you would have to lift the corner of the tarp to gain access to the filler. I know this is illegal in the boot of a sedan, but what about a ute?

I've seen it once about 20 years ago but not since. You've got me on this one Smally. I wouldn't have a clue. What about underneath like where they put the gas tanks?

I got knocked back years ago on a roady for having the gas neck in the tray under the tarp, mind you we fitted it up ourselves lol.

I would imagine the theory being that fuel vapours could be trapped in the tray being heavier than air.

where's the vent on these..???
LPG vent outlets ALWAYS must be lower than the tank (LPG gas is heavier than air and sinks)
and vent to the atmosphere as far away from ignition sources (read exhausts) as posssible.
(as per the Aus Std for installation)
