I think he means 'how do you get a car registered if you have no papers for it.'

If that is the question, you need to have at least a receipt with the name and address of the previous owner as well as identifying the car, preferably by VIN or chassis number. It makes it easier if you know the previous registration number or have an old rego label.

Just a bit of advice. NO malice intended. Please proof read your questions first. You may get a quicker answer if we can understand.

doc i have a question on this also, im currently heavily modifying a car (body work) that has not been registered for some years. i have the required receipt with sellers details and vin # etc.

should i expect any dramas when i come to register it again? as ive contacted the seller and previous owner, and previous owner before that! and they all had it unreg'd and none know the old rego number.

P.S it will be all engineered.

I would make sure if possible that I had a receipt from all sellers. i.e. A to B, B to C and C to you etc. Just to cover all your tracks. The old registration number, papers, or label just make it easier for Vic Roads. Each car is given a serial number when they are first registered. That number stays with the car forever. If the car has been re-registered after 1989, then they will have a record of the VIN and you shouldn't have any problems. Registered before 1987 and it makes it more difficult for them. It can be done though.
When I registered the ute, I just told them the old rego and they went from there. No problems at all.

Overall it seems like you've done the right thing and I can't forsee you having any problems. But then again, it is Vic Roads isn't it.
