i dont think they can issue or manufacture new tags.
im in the process of getting surrogate numbers for my hq in qld at the moment, but the paperwork i was given by the cop looking after it today says they arent to be used as id on a vehicle which i quess sort of makes the whole process worthless, even tho i cant register it without them, go figure. my problem is ive got the build plates, but its been a replacement chassis at some stage, if i have the hassle again ill do the dodgy and grind the old number off and restamp the chassis to suit the build plate. fortunately mine isnt really a collectors item. Best bet is to ring queensland transport, and maybe get verification from ford from your chassis number cheers, andy |

good luck, i reckon your chances would be about zero, unless you knew a shiny bum at geelong. i had a friend with a similar problem with an SLR 5000, even with the correct vin number holden still werent interested, apperantly its against the law to reissue build plates
cheers adam

i have a letter from ford verifying its authenticity, i'm just looking for someone who can reproduce the tags, it's never been a issue until now, with the dollars these cars sell for now, investors want as much verification as possible, and they see my car without the tags and run a mile, even with the letter.
a gt guru told me to drop 20-30k without the tags. i've just relocated to qld from nz and the car is in storage there, so if anyone from nz could help also, it would be appreciated, if it doesn't sell there, i'd like to bring it over here, and qld transport would make it hard without tags i would imagine. thanks, John.. nah its not too difficult just time consuming(mines been 3 weeks so far), if you bring it over and want to register it, as long as you can prove you are the owner, they will organise for queensland police to inspect the car and issue surrogate numbers, the only problem is waiting for them to find the time to inspect the car. obviously without the tags there will be a drop in value, but at least you can prove its a gt with the verification letter

Cheers, i've been in contact with qld transport today, they told me the same story, i was really hoping to find an outfit that could reproduce the originals, to make life easy, i guess i'll own a genuine 4 speed car at the value of a clone.
Maybe insurance will be cheaper? |

If you are replacing ID's that have been stolen by some low life and you have all the documentation from the car maker. I see no reason why you should not be allowed to replace those stolen ID's.
Yes of course it is easy to fake ID plates and not 'make' a car that never left the factory. BUT if you get busted doing that, you better have a supply of soap on a rope, cos you will need it where you are going. Google it. there has already been numerous sucessfull prosecutions all over the world for people doing the same thing. But if you replace ID plates that have been stolen and you have the documentation to prove it. Who is ever going to know????? |

I guess it comes down to the old saying, "Nothings illegal if u dont get caught".
But still, its pretty risky and im not entirely convinced it would be worth it.
