i know in QLD the car has to be 30 years old, and there are limitations on where and when u can drive it. u can drive it to and from mechanics/work shops ect, to and from club events ect, and a certain distance from home for tuning purposes (or something like that). it is a hell of alot cheaper though. from memory, it is less then $200 a year... but as said, there are limitations, and if broken, and caught, u get in big shit.

What Pumba said. Read this below. Not worth the hassle of having club rego.

Mate there is heaps of heavily modified cars on club rego in Qld.
I plan to put my HQ Monaro on it when I get it on the road. It's a pain in the ass though if you want to jump in your car anytime and drive it. My wifes HT Monaro is on club rego and we dont regret it.

for NSW it's about $50 but car has to be 30yrs old. Heaps of NSW & ACT rally cars like dato 1600's run "historic" rego but you have to be a member of a car club that is part of the scheme - not just any club even some of the CAMS one's don't do it. If the car is not a daily driver it is good value as it includes CTP insurance.

I hate to tell you this but as of the 30th of January any car that does not meet the Vic road definition will losse there club plate rego. It clearly state the all car's registered on the scheme must be of factory condition, as in no scoops no roll cages and no wheel tubs.

I know of 40 cars that have been striped of there club plates in the last two months alone for theses breaches. You can thank the guys with highly modified cars for this. They have been flouting the rules for years and now it is coming back to bite us all.

There is also now three different categories and the CH plate will soon disappear and it will be twice as hard to get club rego. In some cases it is a good thing.

Mate if you still want to go a head with it ring your local rego branch and they will put you in touch with the relevant bodies.

In QLD the car has to be over 30 years old and you have to be an active member of an approved car club. The car can only be driven on official club runs, any distance to get work done on it or a maximum 15 km radius of your registered address for test purposes. The car also has to be roadworthy. I believe there are no limits on mods in QLD yet. Personally I prefer to drive my car where and when I feel like it so I chose not to go the club rego route.

As Rod Hadfield proved with his Merlin powered 55 Chev, in Vic at least, anything can be registered, it all depends on how much restriction you can live with. In talking with a chassis builder at the recent hot rod show in Melbourne, Street rods can be registered on club rego, and can often get full rego, as long as you STICK TO THE RULES. T-buckets are a no-no for full rego and can ONLY get club reg, unless you import one from another state already registered. Club reg in Vic means you can only go on club runs, you can't drive to work in it. BUT, a not widely known point that was made is that the car may be driven on ANY club's notorised run, doesn't have to be your own club. You are limited to the number of days per year you can drive your car though.

But I guess all street rods clearly pass the 30+ years limit anyway, can't help you with newer cars, but hope this info may be useful to some.

I can tell you now that car of Rod Hadfields never had full rego. It only ever had limited rego. It was not engineered to drive on the public highway, that was one of the reason's it was sold in the states

As for what you where told at the Hot Rod show it would depend on who you spoke to, there are different rules for different people, and i have dealt with all of the.

As for club rego you may not attend theses events UNLESS the event is advertised in your issuing clubs news letter, you can no longer just have the flyer in you car.

You have also mentioned some thing about sticking to the rules??? is that the ones where the guy who you see for your Street rod rego tells you you cant have a pinion hand brake ( mind you most modern cars have this set now days ), so there for you must buy some wheel chokes to use in stead?? also what rules would they be, do you mean the so called state guide line?? which i mite add no longer stand. I have been a Hot Rodder for close on 30 years and it has never been harder than it is right now, and it is only going to harder still.

The first thing anyone should do is ring Vic roads or who ever it might be in there state. End Rant.
