Default air filter

i know its not legal to have ur air filter hanging out ur bonnet but i was wondering if there is any way around it..i was told the reason y it is not legal is because u cant have n e thing metal hanging out ya bonnet and because when u cut the hole u also cut out the main bonnet braces..so if i was to make a fiber glass air filter top and re inforce around the hole would that make it ok do ya reckon?

Not sure about NSW. There is an early thread about bonnet scoops. See if you can dig that up.
I don't think just changing the air filter top would make much of a difference to the situation. It would still probably be considered a sharp protrusion. BUT then again, NSW may be different to Vic.

In Qld it also relates to the potential damage something protruding out of a bonnet can have on a pedestrian, should you hit one
