Hi Guys Im Having A Ongoing Drama With The Recoed Vn-vp? Turbo700 Ive Fitted Into My 383 Chev Hj 1 Tonner In The Last 31/2 Months Its Been Back To The Trans Builder 7 Times To Be Fixed Each Time I Get It Back Theres A New Issue 1st Gear Only Then Massive Slam Into 2nd Then Wont Get 3rd Then Wont Kick Down Then Wont Select 4th Then Wont Kick Down Again Then Grinding In 3rd With It The Latest Is In 3rd At 2500rpm (slowly Accelerating) For 15 Sec It Dumped Oil All Over The Exhaust From The Breather Tube I Sent It Back 8 Days Later It Returned On Tow Truck All Fixed He Said I Took It For A Drive And Now It Feels Like Im Driving With The Handbrake On F----ck No1.anyone Have Any Ideas Or Hints No2. Can Anyone Suggest A Trans Builder Around Bris Thats Trustworthy No3.anyone Help????? Cheers Joe PS I HOPE IVE DONE THIS IN THE RIGHT PLACE THIS TIME

Is your throttle valve cable (aka kickdown cable) set up right? mine did the hold first slam second thing when i first installed it but it was just cable adjustment a few times to set it up right and away i go.

I Asked The Trans Reco Guy Thats Been Doing The Work The Same Question He Says He Set It Right Another Trans Guy Said It Was The Corvette Valves?? That Were Fitted (wrong Size Causing Oil To Pressurize And Blow Out The Breather It Will Blow Oil Out Sitting In Park At 2200rpm After 20 To 30 Sec) I Built The Whole Car - Rust Work - Motor - Tray - Made My Own Wiring Loom From Scratch But I Know Nothing About Autos So Please Keep The Ideas Coming I Will Try Burpengary Trans On Monday But I Think Its To Close To Xmas For Pro Help

Maybe blocked trans cooler ,kinked hose, too much fluid ?? That would be too easy I know but theres not much else us amateurs can check! Pretty bad though if you have had it in the trans shop 7 times.. Sounds more like internal problems. The cable on th700 isnt really a kickdown, it controls the shift points and harshness of the changes. If you dont have the correct bracket and precise adjustment you can kill clutches etc just driving around the block. I hope it is only a simple fix.

Have you got a lockup convertor, if so is it manually controlled. Maybe you have had it locked up all the time. I have done it accidentally and dosnt feel too good !!!

Im Using The Bigest Derale Trans Cooler They Make With All New Hoses Im Sure There Fine But Will Check In The Morning Same With Fluid Level I Made The Kickdown Bracket Myself Trans Guy Says Its Fine ( It Could Well Be Wrong I Made It??? ) I Read Somewhere It Has To Pull At A Certain Angle So I Made It To Suit I Couldnt Find A Bracket Anywhere To Suit The 350 Motor With My Carb/manifold Combo As For Convertor I Believe Its Just A Standard Reco One Not A Stall And I Havnt Got A 4th Gear Lockup Switch Yet Ive Been Trying To Find One With No Luck So Im Trying To Get One From The States The Trans Guy Told Me To Fit A Toggle Switch And Flick It On When I Reach 80klm ?? Ive Spent 30k I Dont Want To Play With Toggles

do u have any ideas on the handbrake feeling im getting if i take my foot off throttle it slows down fairly quick almost feels like light braking 60 to 30 in 300m going slightly downhill im not game to go far incase its overheating the box thro drag??

what sort of carb do you have, as there are holley and rochested bracket to suit the th700 trans, most auto shops can order them in also if you do a seach on here you can find a wiring diagram for the lock up switch.
or there is a box unit you can buy for the states that does the lock up for you, can't remember the name if it sorry, someone else may have a answer for you though. good luck

still on the lock-up converter. that sounds like a likely culprit to me, too
you said that you don't have a switch to control it and you made the wiring loom yourself.
are you absolutelt certain that you haven't wired it so the converter lock is on all the time? or even under certain. incorrect conditionsIf a man says something in a forest, and his wife isn't there to hear him................is he still wrong?

why have lock up at all you dont need it. every trans shop i have spoken to say the same thing leave it disconnected it wont make any difference to the box at all. Whats it do give you another 350-400rpm drop when cruising is it worth the hassle?

THANKS GUYS THIS IS ALL HELPING IVE JUST CHECKED ALL THE HOSES AND FLUID LEVEL ALL OK THE H/BRAKE ISNT STUCK ON I HAVE A 600 VAC SEC DASH? 12 HOLLEY AND IVE HEARD THE SAME THING ABOUT THOSE ALLOY AUTOBARN BRACKETS NOT HAVING THE RIGHT ANGLE ALSO I HAVE NO WIRES GOING TO THE LOCKUP SWITCH ON THE GEARBOX AT THE MOMENT AT ALL (IM WAITING FOR SUMMIT USA TO RETURN MY EMAIL ABOUT THE DIFFERENT LOCK UP KITS) FROM WHAT IVE BEEN TOLD ABOUT THE CONVERTOR NOT HAVING IT LOCK UP MEANS THAT ABOVE APPROX 80KLM AND UNDER LOAD THE CONVERTOR IS SLIPPING THEREBY CAUSING EXTRA HEAT (WEAR AND TEAR ) PLEASE DONT LAUGH BUT THIS IS MY WORK UTE THAT IVE BUILT FOR TOWING A CARAVAN (HENCE THE STROKER) THE CARAVAN IS MY MOBILE WORKSHOP FOR DOING VINYL GRAPHICS DECALS ETC AT UTE MUSTERS CAR SHOWS RACE MEETS ETC I WANTED A TOW CAR WITH SOME STLYE IM USING A 99 MODEL PAJERO THAT WONT CUT IT (GUTLESS) AND MY VT WAGON DRAGS ITS BUM (TO LOW WITH 18s) IVE HAD THE TONNER FOR 12 YEARS BUT IM THINKING OF SELLING HER BECAUSE OF THE G/BOX ITS ONLY DONE 4 KLM IN THE LAST 31/2 MONTHS IM NOT EVEN GAME TO TAKE HER TO THE SHOPS ANYMORE 9 TRIPS ON THE TILT TRAY SO FAR

Sorry to hear you are thinking of selling after all you have done. I would still recomend Burpengary Transmissions to have a look at it. Fuel economy was the only reason I chose the 700 and it definately does that well.But it was built properly and I havent had a problem. A lot of trans guys hate them but there are thousands of them on the road clicking up heaps of trouble free Ks. Im pushing 500 Plus HP in a heavy car and I love that overdrive with 4:11 gears !!

Well i have 3.08 gears with the t700 it sits at 1750-1800 at 100kph and if he is using it as a tow car it wont or shouldn't have short gears so yeah better than 2400-2500 it does with a 3 speed.
Also OP you said you have the biggest derale cooler on it so the extra heat which it gets will be easily take away by that. besides what makes it so different from a 3 speed that has no lockup? Also above 80kph and under load the lock up should disengage as it not meant for use under load.
I would take it back to whoever built it and tell them to fix it and your not paying them any more for it cause its never been right since the first built it.

I Will Try Burp Trans Tomorrow I Dont Want To Sell Im Just Pissed Off I Wanted The 700 Because Im Using A 3.55 10 Bolt I Regret Pulling The Old Motor Box Combo 202 12 Port Sc12 S/charger Supra 5spd I Went To The 383/700 For Better Fuel Economy And Less Stress Hindsight Is A Great Thing
