Default Think twice

Gday all,

Now before you think that I'm some loser posting away at this I just wanted to share something with you all about how things can suddenly happen when its completely out of our control and also because this is the first time its happened to me.

Last Saturday I was driving through my town doing the speed limit (70km/Hr) in the right lane as I had just come off a round about. I was approaching an intersection...the lights were green the whole time I was approaching, nearing and when I had entered an aged woman cut right in front of me (most likely not paying attention to any of the on coming traffic) I t-boned her at 70Km/Hr pushing both of us through the intersection and I ended up hitting a light post as well. Once I noticed her age I straight away got out of the car not really worrying about myself, called an ambulance whilst this woman kept on calling me a prick and what not saying I was in the wrong and I was a young hoon.

Anyhoo she had to be taken away with the ambos, my collar bone was fractured, I have a nice purple bruse where my seat belt had re-tracted on me. My work car is buggered and I'm most likely going to get done because I am a younger male driver....

Sometimes its not just the younger drivers out their whom are doing the wrong thing.

Here is a pick of the car.....

The point of this post was to show/remind people that even though you are doing the right thing, everyone must be so careful of the other drivers out their. Oh and if you are wondering my age in 19 and had just gotten off my P's

Ouch.

You see drivers like that old lady everywhere. What I especially hate is when they speed up to about 80km/h and change lanes in front of you, then drive at half the speed limit... or when they weave between lanes or drive in the middle of the road. Pisses me right off.

mate that is very unfortunate. It is also going to be a grey area. Obviously she didn't check her blind spot. I saw the same thing happen 4 days ago when a Subaru Forester cut off a Statesman and hit it but it wasn't as bad as your incident.

Sure your car is buggered which is a pain in itself especially when you did nothing wrong but at least you are alright mate. Cars can be bought but your life can't.

thats pretty messed up mate, glad to hear no one was seriously injured. But i agree i see people like that on the road all the time...driving the torana every day i've learnt to become very aware of EVERYONE around me on the road and coming from other directions...but still its not cool. You really wonder what goes on in their mind. Hope you dont get done for it mate

same kind of thing happened to me in my last car man - i feel for you - only with mine the old fella drove through a stop sign and i hit his A piller - i didnt car about cars afterward seen as he was hitting his chest and saying he thought he was having a heart attack - not my fault but still plays on your mind - and I too was a P plater at the time

hope all goes well with insurance and everything - if the cops were at the scene and you told them what went on, im pretty sure you'll be fine on the young drive/hoon side of things, some cops do understand the granny's have a chip on their shoulders

Every time you get into a car you are risking life and limb, people forget they are in control of a lethal weapon. unfortunatly accidents happen, regardless of circumstrances, it is human. be greatful no-one was killed, you may lose a car you may lose money, or you may lose your licence. but they can all be replaced. learn from what happened and try to be more aware, exercise more caution especially at intersections.

Clearly she is in the wrong...failing to give way.

You shouldn't be the one at fault if i understand correctly. The way i read it, she was turning but you were going straight....she should have waited for you to pass.

These things happen and you can't do much about it. at least your still walking and talking.

Keep us informed,
It is unfortionate, it only takes one person to do something stupid to cause even fiatality.
I had a moment of sudden realisation without any accident last week. When it comes down to it, Humans are fragile as paper and I still question why we've suvived and how with such dangerous animals out.

The road is no different, You'll only ever be truely idiot-safe in an old Delorian - made from stainless steel. It can all be over in a couple of seconds...

What sort of stupid un-educated reasoning is behind that statement ???

The DeLorean body was made from thin non structual stainless steel over a fibreglass underbody.

NO car is 'idiot-safe', period.

to the OP, Sucks bout your car mate, be yeah as already said, nobody was hurt and thats all that matters.

Seeing dead people on the side of the road practically every second day over here from road related accidents, sure brings home just how fragile our existance actually is.

Sorry I did fail to mention that she was turning and failed to give way...

I had a call from my insurance company today asking me for another number to contact the bird on...due to when they call her and they identify they are from an insurance company she hangs up and now dosent answer any of their calls...Seems to me like she dont got insurance or has realised that its her fault or somthing.

The up side to all of this is I get VE possibly a Calais!! ahaha

DFCTV, that's a big shitty day you had, and she called you a 'prick', nice one grandma LOL, mate because an ambulance was called obviously the police were there, if you were anywhere near a set of traffic lights,(and this is only if you were charged for the incident), it is your right as a motorist, to request from RTA the video footage taken on the traffic surveilance cameras on any date involving you or other parties involved in an appeal against a traffic infringment.

just thought i'd let you know that in case you were charged and thinking of fighting it in court.

I think it was a bit of tongue in cheek there V8fcorty.!!

Were the police called? From what it sounds like, your definately in the right and she failed to give way to oncoming traffic. Good luck with it.
