Default What Do You Think Is The Cheapest Motorsport?

Hey i was thinking of getting into a motorsport....i dont care what kind as long as it has four tyres..and i dont know what will be the cheapest motorsport to get into...

I was thinking Formula Fords but i dont know the costs or anything..

I'd like the sport to be in Adelaide for now then maybe if its a national category i'll travel

Any ideas???

well youve definatly narrowed your options specifying 4 wheels, other wise i was going to suggest pocket bikes, they start at $200+ and some decent speed can be had, so far my bike owes me maybe $650 and will easily do 80kmh (with about 5hp, yeah i know 5hp isnt much but in a bike that only weights 20kgs thats a pretty good power to weight ratio), and being as your in adelaide you have the pick of 3 tracks, 1 in pooraka, 1 in port elliot with a nice long straight (this track is based upon the original adeilade F1 circuit) and theres also a track some where in the barossa valley, and with a bike easily fit in the back of most 4 door sedans and 3 tracks in close proximity its an easily affordable form of motor sport

cheers adam

cheapest has to be autokhana ..or motokhana
which is used your (if you want) street car ..with only
a few mods (fire extinguisher etc)..and then go out and race
on grass (or dirt)

most car clubs run this sorta event monthly (check CAMS register of clubs)

then imo...you have club circuit racing and drag racing as a close 2nd

Formula Ford (or Formula Vee) is NOT cheap motorsport

hth

yep agree with smitty, even tarmac rally events would be fairly cheap to compete in.

how bout karting? where most start out to become a race driver

I wanted to stay away from bikes cos i absolutely hate them. I don't know why but i just don't trust 2 wheelers. Just quickly, does anyone know how much it costs to run Formula Ford??

I really wanted to get into drag racing but i don't quite have the money for it and there is no track here anyways. i was thinking getting into some form of circuit racing preferably and was wonderin what would be the cheapest..

Also with motor racing...don't the sponsors pay for some of the stuff?? I'm not 100% sure about that..i heard it from someone i cant remeber where..........

Cheers, Dee

Formula fords will send you broke in a hurry if you're buying the car. If you're good enough (if you havn't raced karts I'd say you're not) you might get a ride with an established team, then sponsers cover a bit of the cost.
Rally is relativley cheap. Having said that the 2.0l Escort I campaigned 10 years ago ended up costing $18k to get to the pointy end of the field...then I wrote it off, but thats nother story.

Have a look at Karts. A couple of grand gets something thats competitive and if you're handy in the shed they're not too bad to maintain

Karting is reasonable cheap to get into but don't expect to much without spending some money.By far the most reasonable is dial your own drag racing.Even with the slowest car in the field you can win. This is useing your daily driver.

haha...not!

I was talking to a few of HQ boys who were at Sandown 2 weekends ago
..a competitive Quee will cost you at least $20,000..maybe 25000
to get on the track. A set of tyres lasts one meet...$1600 down the drain
and don't forget panel fixups....these guys play no beg pardons

cheers

What about sports saloons? They aren't too bad. I still say karting or rally.
