Default Edumacation for the youngsters.

After seeing Smittys thread about the mazda roadpacer/HJ prem;

A Myth...for sale

it got me thinking. What about other very rare or supposedly non existant versions of aussie cars are there that we can share with perhaps some of our younger members who wouldnt know of these vehicles?

The ones i can think of at the moment are:

1. Probably the most legendary one, the Phase 4 XA GTHO.
2. Nearly on par with the Phase 4, the XU-2 Torana, not a V8 LJ as tested by Larry Perkins, the experimental LH.
3. The V8 prototype R/T Bathurst Chargers.
4. The Holden GTR-X.
5. The Holden Hurricane.
6. The Old Man Emu HQ.

Im sure ive forgotten some and any more that ive overlooked would be great. It would be good to see what peoples thoughts are on these incredible cars.

I dont have any pics on hand right now but will try to find them if i can. Any pics and info or others ive missed would be good.

Well toryman, your first one was real even though there where only 4 made except in Perth. One of the Ford yards decided to try to cash in on it.What they did was get a fairmont & do it up to look what they thought it would come out like, even going so far as to make it way out of tune so it sounded like it had a monster cam.I know this because my wife worked for them & if she had to go & do something she had to drive it.

Thats what ive always known too. Apparently, the first was calypso green with a white vinyl roof, another was red and black and was a regular at drag meets in sydney, owned by a dentist last i heard in the late 80s. Another was yellow and black, no idea where it ended up but some people say a collector in QLD has it. Apparently the 4th one was written off on a test track somewhere.

Even though it wasnt a real Phase 4, i bet the one your wife drove was still a magnificent old beast Oldman.

The 4X4 holden vans built in Launceston,I don't know if these count but there was the Repco sports & the Bowel Nigaru, both produced for a couple of yrs.The South African GT was a Fairmont look alike,no performance like a real one

Bolwell Nagari is the car you're thinking of there. They've just completed development of a new one, it was at the Melbourne motor show this year. Something to watch out for.

Good pics of the GTR-X and Hurricane
another i thought of was the HDT Monza. Brock broght a 2 door opal senitor over from england and changed over the front end to look like a VH commodore and stuck a 308 in it.

Hey Bosshogett wasn't the E55 chugga going to be packing the 340 with lots of go fast bits from the states( but ended up as an asthmatic 360)

Leyland P76 Targa Florio and Force 7. Quite rare, but are you after prototypes?
Only 1 example of a P76 station wagon exists to the best of my knowledge.

Just remembered another car that should be mentioned in this thread. The 428 powered XW GTs. I think 2 were built, one for Bill Bourke, head of Ford Australia at the time. It was black, and had silver across the back of the bootlid, where normal GTs had matt black.
