Default whats the legal age for kids and front seats

just want to find out if there is a legal minimum age for kids to be able to sit in the front seat? My daughter is 5 atm
Main reason is id like to buy a ute but im unsure about the legal side of it cause i have heard some things but, like to find out more.

I know airbag equiped cars can cause an issue but if i buy a ute it would probobly be an older ute (around a 90's model)

so can anyone share any light on this
    cheers

In SA, five-year old kids are allowed in front seats.

Either that, or when I was 5 not one single cop car drove past us.
...when it comes to adelaide boys and burnout comps, nothing gives me a bigger hard on

There are no problems with your 5 year old riding in the front seat of a ute. Where else are they going to go? Tied down in the back? I don't think so.
You are right with the possible problems with the airbag.
A child can sit in the front seat of any car PROVIDED they are of a size to be suitably restrained by the seat belt or child/booster seat. The problem here is that not many 5 year olds have the body mass to lock the inertia reel seat belts should the need arise. The seat belt should not cut across the neck of the child hence the need for a booster, even for a 5 year old. They may not like it but it helps with the safety of the child. The seat belt should go across the shoulder. I have included a link from the NSW RTA regarding the Australian Road Rules for seat belts.

I think you'll find in most utes these days, there will be a switch in the glovebox to turn the airbag off for this exact reason.
