Default LFW WA(FIFO): Trade Assistant or Similar (keen to up skill)

    Hi all,

I just wanted to put out feelers to see if there is any full time or casual ongoing FIFO work going that I may be suited for. Im 23 in October and I've been working in construction, as a TA, since late 2010. I have minor FIFO experience. I've only done 1 stint away and that was 5 weeks straight and I coped just fine. However, I do not wish to work 4 and 1s or 26 and 9. I'm looking for a family friendly roster (3 and 1 and shorter).

I'm an incredibly hard working individual that learns really fast and has a great work ethic. I'm not a drop kick, I graduated year 12 and attended a year of uni and only dropped out due to the fact my university turned my degree into something I did not want to do.

I have my forklift, EWP and C class license and also my working at heights and senior first aid certificate. Unfortunately I don't have any Rio inductions .

I'm currently employed as an electrical TA but the money is average and I seem enjoy the FIFO life style.

I currently live SW of WA.

If there's anything I've forgotten please let me know.

    Thankyou,
    Dean

Hi mate, probably not the best time for it at the minute as most of them are crying poor again. But get on seek.com.au there are always a few jobs on there that you may be interested in. If you like you can email me your resume as i know we are in a need of a few lubies and some planties where i am (not sure whether the tight arses are actually going to hire any but we bloody need them). I'm only a fitter so haven't really got any pull but if anything comes up i can make sure your resume ends up in front of the right person.

Thanks mate ill give it a shot. My company only has 4/1 rosters at the moment which is a bummer and that's why I'm stuck in a workshop.
    Ill give monos a call.

Sorry to hyjack your thread dhoges but 355turbo, do you know if there needing any scaffolders mate?? Have my advanced ticket, work at heights, confined space and around 5 years experience? Also done my rio inductions but back in 2008 so gather they would be out of date? Have rang monos ect... with no luck as like you said everything is quiet at the moment! Also have my trade papers as a qualified mechanic (light vehicle) and would be interested in this route also. Also 4 and 1 roster does not bother me
    cheers ryan

I only just saw your reply. Ill be sure to email you my résumé when I get home this afternoon.
I look at seek every day and the only jobs I see are 4/1 or 26 and 9 on Barrow Island. I'm really after a family friendly roster where I don't have to spend more than 3 weeks away from home at a time.
When I did 5 weeks straight that wasn't a problem because I knew it was just a once off.

    Thankyou!

No worries mate, 2-1 where i am i will ask around when i get back to site tomorrow and pass it on if something comes up. Try linkforce, dt workforce, chandler mcleod, workpac, phoenix shutdown services and rcr tomlinson aswell you may find something through them. I fly to country vic all paid for would never go back to anymore than 2-1 as i have 3 young kids but i started on 4-1 which was a foot in the door. Ryan numbers are pretty full for those jobs where i am but for scaffy work try pilbara access, linkforce and phoenix shutdown services as they do a bit of work up this way

That'll be excellent. Ill really appreciate it. I've tried chandler, workpac, downers, monos and AGC and they all say to keep checking the "current vacancies" section on their website.
A lot of jobs aren't even advertised as someone knows someone else that's in that company and that's how they get the job. That's how I got my foot in the door with this company which I've been with off and on since 2010. Unfortunately they only do 4/1 rosters. Also they don't have much work on at the moment.

Ill look up those other companies and ill definitely email you later this afternoon.

If you want a job in the mining sector than what ever roster they give you , you should take it as it is a foot in the door once your in its easier to move around , I started with a 21/4 roster and now I'm on a eight and six it is the cost of getting green people to start and than they don't like it and leave so they will always take someone who has been in mining for a while over someone who hasn't , so if you get offered something especially in today's market .

    Thanks for the advice.

26/9 work is readily available but I've got 3 years experience in the construction and maintenance industry in mining, oil and industrial construction. I'm being a little bit fussy because I have a job at the moment but I am looking for FIFO. I need to get out of this workshop and my company doesn't have much work coming in and I can't afford to have any more time off this year.

Worse case scenario, I'd rather take the 4/1 or 26/9 than be unemployed.

    Thanks again!

On another note I would really like to up skill. My mate got his foot in the door as a service person. I'd like to do the same. All I can do is keep applying, plus I need to go get my HR.

I've been working offshore for 8-years now so heres an insiders tip if youre interested, I reccon the best foot in the door for offshore fifo is getting into flange management or joint integrity type work. Pipefitters to some.
You'll need training in flange management and Geographe/CAMERON do courses in Perth. After your training, hand over your CV at the front desk.
Maybe follow that up by showing some interest in Joint Integrity Inspection training.
    www.geographe-energy.com.au/total-valve-care/training

Several of our flange management guys have moved over to core crew maintenance after a year or two, 3 on 3 off. $220K+
City based valve maintenance companies like www.callidusgroup.com.au and onsite in-situ machining companies like www.furmanite.com.au are another couple of good options.
Fk doing 4/1 when you can be doing 3/3
    Good luck.

Thanks mate I appreciate the advice. I haven't heard anything about the resumes I've put out, so ill look into this and get details about the flange management training.

I've only been guaranteed another 2 weeks work with my company as work has gone that quiet for them and they haven't secured any more jobs just yet.

I'm really hoping I hear from one of the company's I've put my resume in at but for what I hear work is pretty quiet everywhere so I'm not too confident.

The main place where the work is, barrow island, there aren't any beds available...

Thanks again, ill get in touch with this training company.
