Default Radiator for XB coupe with stroked big block

OK so first up, how good do these work? Can you make them from brass? Im lead to believe that brass disperses heat much better than aluminum.

My GT radiator works great around town and in drive thrus. Ive never gotten hot there. My problem is when i hit the highway for prolonged periods of time. It gets a bit hot there. Is my radiator not big enough to cool? What are your thoughts?

I will need to measure my current radiator and give you dimensions. I assume you make them to size?

Price?

We only stock and make alloy radiators, I have no interest in going into the brass side of things im sorry. Its very strange for you to be experiencing problems on the freeway as that is when even the crappiest radiator should be perfroming at its best. My 2 questions are,how thick is your current radiator? If like many you have gone to a 4 core thinking the fatter the better you may have gone too thick and actually be restricting flow.Sounds like it has a heap of volume for keeping cool when sitting at the lights etc but the air is struggling to get through when cruising. My second question is-How is the car geared? Are you cruising at 5000 rpm on the freeway due to the car being set up for drags etc? If so that may be your problem and somthing I really cannot see anything short of a FULL custom radiator, somthing with a custom fin pitch design and the right amount of fins per square inch to give you both the air flow without sacrificing volume. We dont get into that side of things as it isnot the focuss of the business. I believe A.R.E are pretty good in this area,it may be worth giving them a call. But before you do, have a play around with some of the more simple aspects of the current set up:
1) Make sure NO air car pass around the sides of the radiator.Seal up the area so all air is directed through the core.
2)Install a clutch fan and shroud
3) try different thermostats

Try the above as it may save you from purchasing a really expensive radiator only to find you have the same problem.

Hope that helps,oh as for price we currently dont do anything for the XB but am hoping to have a 56mm tripple core tripple pass unit made up to trial in the coming months that we will be aiming to retail at $550 inc

cheers
Nath

Thanks for the reply.

Yes its geared with 4.11's so its not very friendly rev wise on the highway.

Im running au twin thermos which i really love and want to keep. I believe it is a 4 core radiator. It was in the car when i got it and i havent done huge amounts of highway driving. Mostly around town so it has sufficed.

How much do these radiators weigh?

Yeah I thought it might be geared that way,ok first of all I would take it to get professionally cleaned then as I said in my previous post stop the air getting around the radiator,if it is a 4 core brass unit then it "should " be able to cool it. After that id have a look at bringing on the thermo fans a little earlier as some radiator are great at holding the temp at bay to a certain extent but struggle after that so get the thermo kicking in before the point the radiator has started to exceed its efficiency.

Now I have to profess I am no expert! I have meerly picked up on my own and customers cars and suggest to speak to the pro's if the above suggestions fail. Saying that it really isnt rocket science and is somthing that in most cases can be fixed by following the above.

cheers
